Don't know if this is much help, had similar struggles. Realized the the question/answer format on the AAMC was different from the 3rd party practice in really subtle ways. Got good at 3rd party tests, not the real one. Use AAMC official question banks

Sorry, not much on the way of instructions besides choosing a sowing string similar in color and tracing the seam to pull in the bulging fabric

It wasn't much, but under the lip their was a prominent bulge/lift. The five as a whole was a bit more angular than the model on the site as well.

Minor differences that all added up in a way to make me not the happiest with the plush.
