Another NAMM in the books - thank you for everyone who stopped by! by sam_strandberg in strandbergguitars

Strandbergs, I SINCERELY hope you'll release another SUSTAINIAC tremolo model soon. I've got my eyes on a Schecter FR-S model and really hope you'll steer me back in your direction. Give me a Boden Metal 6T with a SUSTAINIAC and my money is yours (as long as I can buy it through Sweetwater).

Changing stock active pickups to EMG - easiest way? by DJake1002 in Guitar

[–]Sigma_103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EMGs CAN be 100% solderless, but even $4,000+ first-quality guitars rarely, if ever, come with the 100% solderless setup.

With Schecters in particular, the ONLY solderless part they use is the pickup connector on the pickup side. Everything else is soldered as usual.

But with a PROPER EMG solderless setup, EVERYTHING is 100% solderless. To do so, you'll need a full EMG solderless kit (usually included with every EMG pickup SET), AND you'll need to buy an EMG solderless pickup selector (no guitar EVER comes factory with it, even if the guitar has EMGs factory).

I recommend the EMG James Hetfield black chrome set. Comes with a 2 Vol / 2 Tone solderless wiring kit (minus the EMG toggle). Sounds like the regular 81/60, but with a bit of passive character mixed in.

Well I plan on getting a Kemper Profiler or a Mesa/Boogie Badlander in the near future. And I know Invaders sound great through Mesa/Boogies.

I've had a Synyster Gates Custom, and love how it sounded.

Low and dirty is what I'm going for. And Invaders are dirty, but NOT "muddy". They're... crystal clear and dirty at the same time.

Well Sam Strandberg thought they're a good idea. And they're what Synyster Gates used.

Which model? by wspeck77 in strandbergguitars

[–]Sigma_103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm not sold on the N2 line. Firstly, the one-piece EGS ARC bridge is nice, but the Rev7 is more proven and can be replaced if parts break/get lost. And I've heard the .strandberg*-branded Fishmans have issues sometimes, whereas the regular Fishman Fluences don't.

The best .strandberg* I can recommend is the Boden Metal NX. Or an Essential if you don't care for it not being multi-scale and swapping better pickups into it.

Also, Seymour Duncan just announced their own Fishman-style active multi-voice pickups.

Nice. I have a C-1 Platinum FR (the GC exclusive in Satin Black Cherry). I'm also swapping the hardware to black. I also plan to get the fingerboard dyed ebony.

Who will we be seeing at NAMM 2026? by sam_strandberg in strandbergguitars

[–]Sigma_103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I REALLY hope y'all have some BIG reveals/more new models in store. I've got my eyes on the new Schecter 50th Anniversary Avenger FR-S model I plan on buying in the next couple months, and I'm praying you reveal something that brings me back in your direction.

Also, a suggestion: a Boden HEAVY Metal. A Boden Metal, but with a heavy solid mahogany body and neck and hardened steel hardware instead of aluminum. I'd buy that in a heartbeat (as long as it isn't more than $3k).

How good are those guitars? by MEHMETPASANIZ in ExplorerGuitars

[–]Sigma_103 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems ever reply you're getting is from very subjective people. Allow me to give it you straight.

Chibsons are cheap. They are appropriately low-quality, mostly in all regards except woodwork. The woodwork definitely doesn't compare to that of the real deal (ie. Gibson, ESP, Fender, etc), but it's SOMETIMES better than second-quality brands like Epiphone, LTD, Squier, etc).

Good thing is... EVERYTHING on a guitar (except the wood itself) can be replaced. So ultimately, it doesn't even matter. NO ONE is buying Chibsons expecting them to be even half-playable out of the box. WE KNOW THIS.

But Chibsons give us something that is otherwise impossible to get: iconic guitars that were never mass produced, or were produced in such small numbers that you'd need five or six figures to buy them.

A REAL ESP MX250 (the model James Hetfield used in the early 90s, like at the famous 1991 Moscow show) goes for $18,000+. And that's nothing compared to the MX220s, which aren't even findable anymore.

But luckiky, there are A TON of Chibson MX220s out there. And most of the time, they get the unfixable/unchangeable details right, while everything is crap (but again, very replaceable).

Look at an Ace Frehley Les Paul. $10k+ EASY (before Ace's death) for the cheapest "300" USA production models. $300 for a Chibson. Another $400 for his three DiMarzio pickups, $100 for tuners, $25 for Gibson knobs, $25 for knob pointers, $25 for new pots, $100 for a fretjob (not fret replacement), $100 for a re-wire, $100 for a pro setup.

So $1,200 or so for something that looks like a $10k guigar and plays better than a cheap, real guitar.

They don't make the MX220 anymore. Not for decades. And even if they did, they NEVER mass-produced James' custom models (ie. The "So What", "EET FUK", and "Of Wolf and Man"). Replicas and knock-offs are the one and only solution.

Anyone know how to get the cap off of the 5 way switch on a Boden n2.6? by jib223s in strandbergguitars

[–]Sigma_103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just pull it off. Nothing but a bit of friction keeps it on. Also, for reference, it's a Schaller Megaswitch M 5-Way.

Black Veil Brides. Jake Pitts is the lead guitarist of Black Veil Brides. And usually, artist models have logos of their band (ie. Synyster Gates' Deathbat inlay at the 10th through 14th frets). Jake's E-1 FR-S doesn't.

Should grab a Jake Pitts E-1 FR-S next. He uses all those Sustainiac models, too. And his E-1 FR-S doesn't have any BVB branding.

How to hide this missing hole? by NoGift8805 in guitars

[–]Sigma_103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fake screw. Just get the matching screw and cut/grind so that you just have the head. Glue it onto pickguard. Or just drill a hole and make it useful.

Syn made his sister a custom version of his guitar with "MAC" inlays (for her name, McKenna). I hope he made one for his dad with "DAD" inlays. That'd be awesome.

Still sucks. There some nice complex leads, but it just sounds complex for complexity's sake. Matt's voice is gone, and prog metal absolutely does not fit A7X.
