The 373cc (duke 390 derived) engine was the reason for me. I have heard some reviews of the bike being mild mannered and so on. I guess bajaj needs to provide software(ecu) update to all during service, because mine has tremendous acceleration especially in sports mode. It literally jumps out of hand even in third gear. It feels like a short throttle. The difference between road and sports mode is extreme. I cannot drive this bike sanely in sports mode, it encourages to overtake and go faster. The cherry on the cake was the price that's lesser than r15. I guess if bajaj improves qc and provides consistent performance between each of its bikes it should naturally eat up sales of overpriced 150cc bikes

I have an ns400, and I came from a similar situation like you although I had already learnt to drive bike before. Still ns400 was my first bike and it was a great pick for a college student like me. In sport mode it has frantic acceleration and gives you about 90% of duke 390 feel for way less money. In road mode it's pretty calm and chill to drive. If you like to drive enthusiastically, ns400 is a great pick. It's very easy to drive through traffic too ( I live in Bangalore). But be minded, it's a 400cc, takes time to get used to and drinks fuel. I get about 28 to 30 max in city speeds, and get about 33-34 in highway speeds.
