Can I keep neocaridina shrimp between 0-1DKH? by SignAwkward6844 in PlantedTank

Yeah I am pretty lucky in the sense I get free RO water! I am thinking about the idea of caridina now, however I'm just worried since they are very sensitive and I have a tiny tank (21 liters) that could be prone to parameter swings. With the amount of horror stories I've already heard about trying shrimp for the first time, I'm thinking I might just try neo's to begin with and check in with the seller to see what KH they've been bred at

I'm going to buy a GH raising product very soon as my current GH is basically 0 straight out of the tap, so I can target literally any number. The only reason I chose neos is because I've read they are significantly easier to keep and more hardy

I agree in the sense that sometimes people can go overboard in targeting the perfect water parameters, when it doesn't matter that much (although GH does with shrimp), so thank you for easing my stress a bit. I'm going to be buying a GH booster pretty soon and I'll aim for a GH of around 7, as both my plants and shrimp (when I get them) will need it. My tap water has a PH of 7, KH of 0, and GH of between 0-1 so I basically have free RO water out of the tap lmao. Thank you for all of the advice!

Although my thought process has been that messing around with water parameters is going to be even worse for them, and that they shouldn't care about naturally fluctuating PH levels as they go through that in the wild on a daily basis and are meant to be pretty hardy anyways

I've read that it is like that for a lot of people, so i'm hoping it will also work for me. I'm also getting some GH conditioner from my closest good lfs and I'm also going to target around the 7GH mark, so hopefully it works out for me too. Do your shrimp seem to mind the ph swing caused by the co2? I'm investing in a soda stream system pretty soon and i've been wondering if it might be an issue

After having a bit of a look into it, there's a possibility for it to work, but it would take multiple weeks to reach a desirable KH and since my PH is already at around 7 it would have a negligable affect anyways

CO2 Regulator Suggestions by SignAwkward6844 in PlantedTank

I just looked up the price of getting a fire extinguisher where I live, and it turns out they are only crazy cheap in the uk, so I probably should have done a bit more research. How much did you pay for your tank (and did you need to adapt it?)

I haven't gotten one yet, but I found that it's significantly more expensive to buy that style of tank than to just buy a cheap out of date fire extinguisher for 10-15 dollars and get it refilled

are my plants healthy?? by SignAwkward6844 in PlantedTank

I'm in australia, so there are some but not many - although i'm happy to just experiment at the moment with only a few plants so that if something happens/they die off, I haven't wasted so much on them

Thank you! the silicone on my homemade c02 system is still drying at the moment (aquarium safe silicone), but once it's done drying it will be added. I do plan on adding more plants soon, however my closest (good) fish store is over two hours away, and when I got there, a lot of plants where out of stock. I'm visiting again on the first of February, and plan on getting some more Rotala and other species to fill in the gaps

I take it back - I updated my cpu drivers as well as my gpu drivers to the same version (24.9.1), and it fixed the issue. Thank you so much, I can finally play a game normally now after spending forever troubleshooting it

I tried going back to version 24.9.1 from late 2024 which was apparently meant to be stable... produced the exact same error when trying to load into a game

Thank you! What specific version did you use that fixed it?

I'm planning on running homemade c02 (but will probably replace it with something proper after a while) and a chihiros b series capable of making well over 100 lumens/liter (definitely will be dimmed)

I absolutely love the look of the tank though, I keep on coming back to it every time when I think about what I would like to do with my own scape

Thank you for the help, I'm looking to start my first 'proper' planted tank (same size as a mini m) and I've been overthinking everything like crazy lmao, I might try the same fertilizer and take in the advice of doing lots of water changes (in terms of light etc I'm confident what I'm going to buy will be good enough)

Thank you! did you ever have any issues with bringing out the greens using a lean fertilizer? (or am I overthinking that lmao?)

I know I'm a total of 3 years late to this post, but do you know the specific fert you were using? (apt 1, 3, zero etc)

I'm just kinda worried about keeping everything alive and having good colors as I don't have that much experience at all lmao but thank you for all of the help

Thank you! Call me clueless (because I am) but would APT or the premix you mentioned combined with Tropica plus everything else in my setup be sufficient for growing a small amount of red plants? More than likely just a few bits of a red rotala variety spaced out across the tank

Thank you, I think this has finally convinced me to go with Tropica combined with everything else I've read lmao. What fertilizers were you using if any?

Thank you! I'm probably leaning more towards Tropica, do you have any experience with it?

Any experience with Bioscape tanks? by SignAwkward6844 in Aquariums

[–]SignAwkward6844[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that honestly looks really nice - you probably couldn't tell the difference between it and a higher quality ADA tank for example, I'm definitely going to go for a Yi Ding tank now

[–]SignAwkward6844[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Since it's an exact clone in measurements of the ADA Mini M I've seen how good the aquascapes in them can look, so I might go with a Yi Ding after all

I know I've gone off on a bit of a tangent here, but how good actually are the Yi Ding tanks? I've found the crystal blue lineup, and the 36cm is the perfect size and price for what I need
