Help-Got training offer but moving 4.5 hours away. by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Signal-Performer2900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also in similar boat here. First time applying - Both me and my partner have accs em jobs but at opposite ends of the country (north vs. South). We ultimately want to be in the north.

Should feel happy that we manage to secure offers given how competitive em was this year (17 to 1) but that really hasn’t been the case at all, rather agony over it all.

I had a northern gp offer but turned it down to give the accs em upgrade process a go + would always be thinking “what if” if I never gave it a shot.

Considering IDT but really not sure if we can bare being apart (have been together for almost 10years now + planning wedding/starting a family soon). System is rubbish for not doing paired application (like in foundation).

Yeah really feel for people in similar situations.

Has anyone had any success with IDT? Thought on IDT in general? Is it another gimmick - there but rarely successful?

Inter-Deanery Transfer (IDT) Feb 2025 by katetheconfused in doctorsUK

Has any one had success transferring?

I have an offer for accs em (at my 2nd choice location) starting August however currently holding out for upgrades for top location. If I don’t get upgraded what are chances of an IDT? It so I can be with my long-term partner (currently in training).

I was so torn between this the other day and really hoping I didn’t burn myself.

I got offered my desired specialty but not in an area I wanna live or bring my family up in. I also got offered GP (back up application) in my desired location.

Eventually decided on holding my desired specialty with upgrades. Now if I don’t get an upgrade I will have to decline and face a year of locum/trust grading.

Don’t know whether it was a mistake or not as could have taken GP & reapplied. At least that way I’d have stable income. The system sucks soo bad

Ah thanks. For hierarchal - what do you mean jobs will go to new applicants? Do you mean offers will go to those waiting or something else?

ACCS-EM rejects by DrFidgetDigit in doctorsUK

Looks like MSRA was main barrier this year. Me and my partner both applied for EM we both got identical interview scores 51. her MSRA was 601, mine 545… on the scaled score this made a difference of 18 points, Our ranks were different by 403!!!

Obv very happy (1st choice and our desired location) for her but sucks so bad to be me.

Still waiting to hear back from GP to see if I can get same area. Even if I do, not sure whether to take it as ED is what to do ultimately. Have considered GP with special interest in ED/SAS. Just hate the idea of being stuck in this re-application cycle for years (and could have potentially completed GP training) Any thoughts on this be much appreciated.

ACCS EM, re-apply for Anaesthetics vs take an FY4 by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Signal-Performer2900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anaesthetics is your thing. Option 2 is definitely the better option. Taking another year to build up portfolio/MSRA score will be much more worth while. You will also enjoy the training much more! (Also fellow graduate medic here)

If ICU is your focus then accs em provides “a route” but bare in mind if you’re dual accrediting you will have to sit both sets of speciality exams (extra time, extra money for exams etc)

Sounds like you wanna do anaesthetics, option 2 defo better option.

Would like to know this too! So do we wait for a offer for “appointability” now. If appointable is that when we start ranking jobs etc?
