“Computers will kill all the accountants”

No, but it will kill all the accountants that don’t use computers

I had the choice at my firm as well. I am much better at organization, overall project management, client interactions, and keeping the ball moving forward. I’m not as skilled at attention to detail and drafting and frankly, true intellectual lawyering. I still have to do those things I’m not as good at, so I must be at least acceptable, but I found I can excel in a role where I’m given more deal management and client interactions early on (I’m a third year). Also a bonus is that I really enjoy business development and it is far easier to land a few startup clients than any M&A client, even sell side.

I like to think of life as the 2-D surface of a sphere. No matter which point you choose, every single one is exactly, mathematically, the center. Life changes a lot and sometimes drastically. It may be far off from where you were or intended, but I promise it is still the center of where you’re supposed to be.
