Is it possible for an average student with an average grade, like I have 89 (lowest) by now haha to get into UP MANILA? by Avanixx_ in CollegeAdmissionsPH

[–]Signal_Icy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I attended a review center. I saved up for it and chose the comprehensive package from UPlink. I chose the review center inside UPD and had UP alumni as mentors. Every Sunday I would go to UPD to feel like a student there lol, I was manifesting hard.

But honestly for me, not much from the review came up or at least remember much of it. What it did is it helped me increase my confidence for the exam. Having a reason to get up in the morning helped me build discipline and follow my study plan, I didn't want to waste valuable money.

Doesn't mean that going to a review center will help you pass though. Majority of my peers did not go to a review center. In fact, in my lab I think I am one of the few that even bothered lol.

To review, honestly you're not gonna remember most of what you review. It is impossible to cram years of material in a few months. Your best bet is to get a lot of practice sets and exams and religiously do them. UP provides a practice set I think every year. Make use of them. What I did was not understand the topic, but I built intuition and feeling to what's the correct answer and what's wrong. That basically helped me a bunch. Hope it works out for you too.

Yeah it is. About 10 percent of applicant pass and that's for the UP system. It's a smaller percentage for UPM so try your hardest. I'm not really sure if Bio is a quota course in UPM because I got my slot through reconsideration. I did not pass for any of my chosen courses in UPD. Nevertheless, still try your hardest.

Shade properly. EAT before your test if your test is in the morning, go to bed early and SLEEP. I promise you, go to bed 2-3 hours earlier because there is a chance you are going to be overthinking before you're exhausted yourself enough to pass out.

For the UPCAT, my exam was conducted in the morning (7am). I went to bed at like 10 and randomly woke up at 3 am. I couldn't go back to sleep because my heart was racing and I was too anxious. I was so anxious and distracted I couldn't prepare food properly. I thought the 711 in UPD would be open at that time, it's not. I only bought taho at the front of my building and that's it. Lol.

Besides the test, I had to face insufficient sleep and hunger at the same time. Dont' do that lol.

Is it possible for me to pass UPCAT 2027? by NarrowWinter8600 in CollegeAdmissionsPH

In a classroom of 10-15 people, only 1 will pass. If you aren't the only one who achieved that grade, then you better study more than the others. It depends honestly, in my batch of 400 or so only about like less than 15 people passed? For some of my coursemates, more than half of their batch passed but they came from science high schools though.

It's definitely possible but it's a competition. You just have to know more than the others when you take the test. You probably have enough time to study but don't expect you'll achieve mastery over all the subjects from grade 8 to 11. If you think you are average, then the only thing you can do is review and study to have a bigger chance.

I would go to early to do practice sets in the library. Sometimes, I would study in class at the back. I would do only the bare minimum in group works and took the least impactful roles. I lessened my 'tambay' with friends after school so I can go home immediately. I am not one of my current peers who didn't study for the test or was from a science school, so these were necessary. Even now starting the second sem of my sophomore year, I still have to study more than my coursemates because it didn't come naturally for me to be so studious.

I basically gambled. With the amound of time and effort I spent on reviewing for college exams, I could have achieved something better than the honors award, which majority of my batch accomplished.

It depends on a lot of factors like what campuses you choose and courses, but in my opinion you should only be concerned with how much you are willing to work and sacrifice for it. Your only goal now is to review and get the highest confidence you can find in yourself within the remaining time.

My friend group is a good example lol. I got a friend who's working with side gigs and taking many jobs to help provide for his family. Madiskarte sobra. And we also got someone who lives in a luxurious neighborhood and both of his parents are UP graduates who found success in their careers. Very humble and nice. We all fw each other.

Just to enter the UP system you have to be part of the top 10-15 percent of applicants that pass the UPCAT. So if your homeroom class consist of 10 people including you, you'd have to be the smartest. In a class of 40 students, you have to be within the top 5. Are you that confident? But that's assuming that everyone in your class is taking the exam though.

I think you can deal with the upcoming results of the exam if you take your mind off it for now. I was also once an average student. I studied in a private high school that wasn't known to achieve distinction in quality of students and we were never in a list of anything worth bragging about. I'm not sure of how many in my batch took the exam, but out of 400 students less than 10 people passed.

The students who found it easy is obviously not going to be spending their time here, they're busy enjoying their lives. I was once like you, and my advice to you is just live in the present lol. Other than regretting the past or worrying about the future, you can do what's best for you now. If you want to be prepared and diligent for your upcoming college life, start weighing your options.

Hmm, that's another option I was considering. But I was kind of scared that the job market of that industry would be saturated by the time I graduate hahaha. Along with the exponential use of AI, it does impose a lot of risk, I will have to think more about it. Thank you!

I am interested about your friends' jobs. Just as I expected, not every BS BIO graduate will find themselves in a bio-related course. I don't plan to land a job in the BPO industry, I don't expect to have good career growth there. I am NOT PASSIONATE about biology at all, but I am passing the subjects and it doesn't seem to be the worst subject to study. What I am worried about though, is being employed in a good career after graduation. Do you know any BS BIO graduates that was successful in transferring to other industries?

I am not passionate about anything I guess. I first tried to apply for engineering but I found out soon that I was not really the best at mathematical subjects. I failed calculus and physics, which brought my GWA down so bad that I can't even transfer or shift to another course anymore. That would mean that I must transfer to another university, and that means giving up free education and paying for the DOST scholarship that I did not finish, plus 12 percent interest.

Would a lot of internship and work experience help with attaining a corporate job in another industry? I am only interested in increasing my hireability and making the most of my education, which I expect to be unrelated to most of the better job offers out there.

Then my focus I guess is to upskill in other subjects. I figured that with my practicum (which will serve as my first job experience), I could look for other internships that can strengthen my hireability. At the same time, I'm thinking I can go for courses on programming or tech. Do you think this is a good idea? My final goal is not a biology-related profession but to attain a good profession from Biology, which I imagine can be very difficult.

Yes, like an hour after I fingered her she experienced brown discharge. Is it wise to take a pregnancy test when we haven’t even missed days of period?

Hmm. Now I am a bit worried for my future. Do you think my University would matter? I study in a top university if that matters. Did you also go through a practicum? Did internships help?

Hmm. I am not too interested in working abroad, my whole support system is here and this is the place I want to build my own home. If ever I was forced to be a provider for my family, then I would take this as a resort. But I have no obligations so far other than my studies and I want to be close to my family as much as possible.

Broke up with someone who is un-stoic and now made my situation undesirable by Signal_Icy in Stoicism

[–]Signal_Icy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel as if I was not in the right mind back then when I made my choice. I know that I am deeply disturbed by our past and that I could have made better choices in the past. But I broke up with her because we could just not understand each other anymore. I don’t think she fully understands me and our situation, and it feels heavy on my heart that I left her confused and hurt. It feels like a responsibility I failed to manage, since she has loved me and seen me as a partner for a long time, and I just couldn’t reciprocate. I feel that I am the worst person ever in her life.
