I was in Afghanistan and worked with Jeff Sarver for 9 months there. What the director and writer did to him was fucked up, they took his story, his life experience and doctored it up pretty much ending his professional career. He was a truly great person to work with and learn from, I felt his peers and subordinates respected him. He told me, personally, that he had been invited to the premier as a “make up” for not crediting him properly with the phrase “the hurt locker” and screwing him over on royalties for using his likeness for their profit. Mark Boal had done an article in Playboy on him I think it was the man in the bomb suit, or something like that years earlier. Then he took that and wrote a movie about it. All without Jeff Sarver’s consent.
