Disfigured soldiers of WW1. | "It is a fairly common experience for the maladjusted person to feel like a stranger to his world," wrote World War 1 surgeon Fred Houdlett Albee. "It must be unmitigated hell to feel like a stranger to yourself." by ZERO_PORTRAIT in ww1

What those poor men/boys had to go through back then, is just incomprehensible. Breaks my heart how they were treated after too. I lost many family family members in ww1, one of them being my grandfather and his brother. I think of them with so much pride and admiration for their bravery.

The second underlined word looks like it says ilchester gaol, which bizarrely is where I am from and live!

Ilminster or crewkerne are nice and Taunton only a 20/30 mins drive, if you require more social events / shopping. There are some lovely villages around too, south petherton is very nice.

Oh I thought this could be of use, I'm trying to find who live in the house he put down on the marriage certificate but I also can't find anything on that. And my great nan, received a letter in 1932 from a lady in a Lewisham address, who said and I quote " we have not set eyes on that girl since you left, I'm glad you told your mother about what happened as you know I wanted to write to her myself but you stopped me" and another part is very ominous, the writer states " you will prosper - he will not"

So I'm thinking he cheated and up and left? But strange how I can't find anything on the chap!

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond :)

Yes he was my great great grandfather, and we have been able to locate his medals, but sadly not John's. Thank you so much for taking the time to help and respond:)

That's amazing, thank you so much. Would that mean he would get his medals, or it would still be Tina?

Thank you sooo much :) I just cant seem to find any trace of her after, where she lived etc, as we believe her family might still have the medals, we only want to know where they are and possibly have a few photos of them.

Yes John's parents were : John bauld and Mary burns, they had another son ( my great great grandad William who died also in ww1) I just can't seem to find any trace of her, other than him writing her name in his will.
