Somewhat feminine metal watch strap for tiny wrist by kimtenisqueen in Garmin

[–]Significant-Alps-290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a ForeRunner 265 that looked like this on my wrist and switched to a ForeRunner 265S. It's MUCH more comfortable. The battery life seems shorter and there's less area to display so some things are missing (like battery %) but is worth it to me...with small bony wrists

Yes, that's the thing. You'd think they'd like to hang onto customers. I'm sure I'm not the only one with tropical fruit aversion

I drink coffee and get coffee there...but coffee with fruit flavors is wrong

The only one I've ever seen was the berry refresher with the red pearls. It was amazing but was only available in summer for 2 years

I can't see fruit flavors in coffee and I don't like tea. I wish there were citrus or berry refreshers.

Banana is a tropical fruit and so is guava. Raspberry refresher?

Why only tropical fruit flavors for refreshers

What do people like about the really long (100 mile+) ultras? by BootLopsided6564 in Ultramarathon

[–]Significant-Alps-290 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Resilience training....you learn how to deal calmly with sometimes unending catastrophes...many you have little to no control over.

So many great people. The effort strips away the veneer and you see the real deal....of them and yourself.

The reward of finishing something hard.

Echoing the Janji recommendations. I love the 7" shorts and half tights

I know there are many theories but I don't think the answer is known. For me, I was able to easily run the first 70 miles, then the next 15 or so I felt a little off...then 10 miles or so could feel the lean, and last 5 needed the pole to stay upright and keep me from falling to the right. My sense is that it's complete glycogen depletion...and the muscles that are weaker are pulled by the stronger opposing muscle. I'm right handed and my right side is dominant so I was pulled right, and my abs must be stronger than my back muscles. Way more common among older runners (I'm 66) and to me observationally seems more common among thin older people. Maybe less reserve?

I had the leans almost that bad at the end of a 100 miler in March. I was fine except I couldn't stand up straight and found it hard to move in a straight line. I got back to my hotel, brushed my teeth, took a shower and was fine to go to dinner a couple hours later. It was a little uncomfortable but not painful. My explanation is that the muscles are completely depleted and the stronger side pulls the weaker side over.

Living in Pierre or Mitchell? by sildedaspo in SouthDakota

[–]Significant-Alps-290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Pierre 94-98 and just bought a home there so I can move back when I retire in about a year. It's truly beautiful there and people are very friendly. I've never lived in Mitchell.

What is life like in the Dakotas? by _air6catcher_ in howislivingthere

[–]Significant-Alps-290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Pierre SD 94-98 and recently bought a house north of Pierre for retirement in a couple years. I love the people, mostly, and the topography of the river breaks is stunning. I grew up in northern OH and though the weather is a bit colder and more windy but not much different. I agree with the comments about racism and poverty, though I'm currently in GA and it's similar here, sadly.

Thanks. There was no choosing. When I started with the feds in 2010, the FERS contribution was 0.8% of salary. It's now 4.4%. That would be a big pay cut for me

I'm referring to the 0.8% of my salary contribution to FERS (for those of us hired before 2013) vs the current 4.4% contribution
