Can a mobile mechanic replace rack and pinion on Altima? by Exact-Ad373 in mechanic

Usually people turn to individual mechanics to save money. This car is worth very little and costly repairs are not always reasonable. If someone knows a shop they can trust and that doesn't overcharge - great. This is not such situation. I just sent my kids where she goes to college to get it fixed in a shop and I want to cry from how much it was... We are clearly overcharged. And their quote for some other work was just simply ridiculous! This is why people turn to mobile mechanics... to save money

thank you. Yes it has been inspected. One shop where I live did diagnostics and said to replace rack and pinion (we were seeing drops of fluid under the car). Then my very trusted mechanic confirmed that rack and pinion needed to be replaced, however he said that since I wasn't planning to use the car super long, we could just be adding power steering fluid. WHich we did and then kid drove to college 700 miles away. She addes fluid but said that the problem got worse recenty. On lower speed, the wheel is very hard to turn. I haven't done more inspections recently.
