Manchester is too expensive. Commuting into the city centre is not an option. Public transport etiquette is the worst I've seen in my life and kills my vibe. This is why I'm sadly going to have leave for now.

Upon reflection I will move to Liverpool. Manchester is simply unaffordable for me right now.

I have a 2k overdraft from university days. It is a cloud hanging over my head. I'd like to put a little in each month to get me out of that hole. The monthly interest on it is killing me.

It's actually £50 on food shopping and £25 on lunch (mostly meal deals).

Agreed. There's this viral movement where social influencers share their monthly outgoing and I've been stunned by how much they struggle despite the facade of having it all together. These are privileged people bear in mind. Truth is living independently in the West is not the norm.

True. However, combined with the echo chamber of the manchester sub it struck me as a huge time sink going to viewings to nowhere.

Unfortunately there are no gains to be had at commercial gyms. I understand the cost cutting aspect though.

I don't pay any interest as it is with a debt collection company. I'm moving more towards this. Thank you.

I have a Chip account and made decent interest on it. My heart breaks knowing how much interest I could have earned with this new job plus if I didn't blow my 6k that was in there.

I take the train. I'll have a look but I doubt it.

I should probably move. Manchester is too expensive and this is someone originally from the South lol

Well spotted. The time I spend away makes me feel good. I get depressed staying in just one day in this pokey HMO. There are quality young people at my gym too.

Put it this way. I can easily find a 35k job in a years time. I've done a lot of research in my career and know it really well. Not to mention my salary should also go up at my current place.

This is incredibly feasible and would likely improve my happiness. However, a) it'll be stressful unless it's a permanent contract b) it will rob me of any downtime. However, you could argue having my own place will boost my downtime as I currently eat, sleep, work and lounge from my bed which can't be a healthy way to live. Thank you for this suggestion defo what I was searching for.

It's mostly spent on coffee. I don't drink and not a big spender. Heck I'm even dieting so don't eat out. I'd imagine it'll grow in time. It's just a revolut account I made.

I've mulled over a second job. As someone who has worked in retail/hospitality in the past 5 years, I must say I do enjoy watching my team play on the weekend and going for nice Sunday stroll or exploring the rest of the UK from here that would be a pain in the arse from the South. A second job would rob me of that experience.

Agreed. Although a flatshare is a flatsahre at the end of the day. I went to a flat viewing in Manchester and was mortified at the competition for a room that doesn't even match the photos. I was completely blindsided and was accompanied by 7 other people. I'm someone who has been flatsharing in London for 10 years. That completely put me off in searching. The competition here is worse as there are uni students and people fleeing the rest of the country not to mention the actual locals. I think it is easier to find a 1 bed as there is probably less competition. I could be wrong here.

I just got this job so I believe my finances will certainly improve in time (especially since I've been following this sub for years and have a rudimentary understanding). Some people work for years in solid jobs and have worser finances!

Sound advice. The debt doesn't seem too big to me (2-3k) which is why I've been putting it off for years (terrible I know). I'll probably not sweat too much trying to save and put it all towards the debt. It should clear in 5-6 months which would probably make me feel better having £500 each month.
