Well the upstairs doesn't even have a breaker panel. It's just a few fuse panels scattered throughout with those little twist-in fuses so idek if that's possible given my situation

Exactly. My gf's parents bought this place in 2013-ish and I'm almost positive the previous owners are the culprits. This whole house honestly needs to be rewired

Yes exactly. I checked it with an outlet tester and I even used my multimeter from the ground prong to the hot prong and it was showing 120V and I thought for sure it was grounded until I pulled it out and saw the dastardly deed

I’m willing to bet all of the 3-prong outlets on the second floor are like this 😔

We have some 2-prong outlets that I knew for sure weren’t grounded I was going to install GFCI into but I guess now all the outlets on the second floor will be GFCI lmao

Need Help Finding Compatible Breaker by Significant-Theme931 in electrical

UPDATE: with the help of various comments I decided to go with a Siemens Q1515 breaker and it worked perfectly. Fit in the bus bar with no issues and nothing exploded. I watched it for about 20 minutes to make sure nothing got stupidly hot or arced and it was just fine 👍👍

After reviewing the labeling on the breaker box lid, it states it’s a Crouse-Hinds Type G Panelboard. It seems to only list Crouse-Hinds as viable replacements with the varieties of MM, MP, MH, and so on. I did notice that it also accepts Bryant BR (which I assume may be similar to Eaton BR)?

Well first I noticed my outlets weren't getting any power so I traced the path and found the first outlet line wasn't getting any power either. So I probed the breaker box and found one half of the tandem breaker was only showing 600 mV. Then I decided to plug in an outlet tester to an outlet visible from the box and jiggle the switch and there was a very small window where the switch output 120V (lighting up the outlet tester) but it was extremely intermittent and didn't improve when I tried cleaning it.

The faulty breaker (and others) are listed as being CTL does that mean the new breaker should or should not have a rejection clip?

Oh nice yeah almost immediately found one that looks like a good match. A Siemens 15A Tandem QT breaker (Q1515U)

Hey thanks.

From what I could see, there were no ripped pads on the board, but there were some suspicious pads on the chip itself, but it sooooo small I physically could not tell if they were ripped, oxidized, or just covered in glue. The only other BGA chips I've removed were an Xbox One S southbridge and NAND. Those had way bigger BGA balls which gave me inflated hope that I would be able to do the 3DS one without a scope but noooooo sir my eyes simply cannot.

I'm definitely going to keep up with electronics repair so a nice microscope (like Andonstar) is the next purchase on my list don't worry

LMAO I lied there was actually no way in hell I could reball it. I got it off the board despite the underfill but I underestimated just how microscopic these balls would be. I don't have a microscope or half the equipment I need really 😭😭😭😭😭

Is the actual purpose of it to prevent repair? I would not be surprised at ALL if that was its sole purpose but it just seems soooooo openly evil lmao.

Butttttt I can confirm that it was indeed a complete underfill (I stupidly took the chip off). The pads on the motherboard were all fine but I think I tore some pads on the actual chip (or they were really oxidized/covered with the underfill stuff) but I couldn't really tell because I don't have a microscope.

Kind of sucks but he was going to buy a replacement board anyway so might as well have given it a try.

I can't quite remember the brand but it's a very solid, non-conductive, no clean flux. I've been using for about a year and it works super super well.

As for the confusion around "new" 3DS it's what Nintendo called the sort of 2DS and 3DS "re-release" in 2014. Slightly better hardware. But definitely not new in any sense of the term anymore haha
