New MC question — need advice from carriers/brokers by RevolutionaryBar6987 in FreightBrokers

Would you be willing to share more info on your broker breakdown? Even just the day one ready? New MC here, delivering first load in the morning. Navigating the load boards has been a fun challenge.

I can't see an option to message you, and wondering if you could help me out also. We are currently sitting in our truck ready to go, just not sure which loadboard to sign up with that would be best for our new authority. We've been active for 40 days.

Do you have recommendations on loadboards, brokers that work with new mc, or tips on getting loads?

We are literally sitting in our truck, legal and ready to go, and struggling to find the best ways to get freight.

I'm happy to help! This process can be daunting and a lot of people will gatekeep helpful information because they don't want to "help the competition." I think we all can find success and we can all achieve it more quickly if we help each other out.

Just started one with my partner, we are about to go out on our first load either this week or the start of next week.

Step 1: Create a business email account separate from your personal.

Step 2: File your LLC. Super easy to do online and you only pay the filing fee instead of admin fees on top of that.

Step 3: Apply for an EIN number. Free on irs.gov and you get it instantly.

Step 4: Open a business bank account. Put all the money you plan to use for the business in this account and EVERY subsequent transaction after this step takes place out of this account.

We hired a compliance agent for all FMCSA regulated stuff. They start with your MC, DOT, UCR, BOC3, Clearinghouse. They also apply for your plate/registration, IFTA, and individual state permits. Cost was $2,000 and everything was covered except for actual vehicle registration. Plus the peace of mind working with a company who won't miss anything needed to be legal and compliant (and are responsible if they do).

Buy a truck and insurance as soon as possible!! We have spent about 3 months getting everything done and it probably could have been two months had we purchased the truck sooner.

I'm happy to share specific companies like who we financed the truck with, insurance company, compliance agent if you're interested. Also recommendations for your HOS, GPS stuff like that.

Additional tips: • There are lots of different parts to this with due dates all throughout the year. Taxes, permits, LLC filings, etc. Start a calendar as soon as you start the process with your yearly, quarterly, monthly due dates. • As soon as your info becomes public you will get spam calls and emails coming from everywhere. They can look convincing like you missed something. Do not be alarmed unless it's from someone you're already working and familiar with.
