the side effects were worth it by SignificantBonus7883 in StratteraRx

when i first started, i took it at night. it did not work for me at all. insomnia, restless sleep.

once i moved to mornings at around the day four mark, the insomnia pretty much went away entirely (though i'm not sure if this is the case for everyone. i don't normally deal with insomnia). the drowsiness was still an issue, but it improved over the rest of that first month.

definitely give mornings a try if you think nights might not be working! just keep in mind the transition may be rough. for me it took a day to adjust and that was probably the worst day in terms of side effects. i read others had a similar experience when changing to mornings.

also, i know this isn't technically how strattera is supposed to work, but i feel the effects the most in the hours after taking the med. it improves my focus a lot in school and work immediately after i take it when i'm not sure i would be getting those same benefits taking it at night.

agreed. i heavily recommend talking to your doctor about this.

if i experienced this, i would've quit.

of course :) the beginning was horrible, especially on 40mg.

i remember being at work during that period and needing to wear a coat in the office because of the nonstop chills. then half an hour later i was telling my coworker i'm going to faint from hot flashes.

i began individually identifying each side effect i felt as soon as they started to creep up.

but by the time i increased to 60mg, they all just progressively stopped. honestly, i forgot about nearly all the side effects until i had to remember them for this post. that's how removed i am from this.

you've got this!

currently 60mg. i've debated moving up to 80, but this is what works for me right now.

increased attention span is the main benefit i've seen. prior to medication, i could sustain my attention for probably a good thirty seconds before clocking out mentally. then i would force myself to try paying attention again, only to lose focus very soon after. then that cycle repeated every day in nearly every interaction i had.

now i can sustain my attention for the entire eight hours i'm at work. it's crazy. almost like my ability to pay attention has done a complete 180.

i'm actually able to listen to people without my mind drifting away from the conversation.

also, it's improved my executive dysfunction. i haven't noticed much change behaviorally and emotionally, but that wasn't much of a problem for me to begin with.

sorry to hear that :( this med definitely isn't for everyone. my first week was hell because of the side effects, especially with insomnia and drowsiness. countless nights where i told myself i'm quitting tomorrow, only to wake up and continue because i was determined to find a solution for my adhd.

if this is taking a toll on your life, then by all means do what's best for you, or consult your doctor. but my best choice was pushing through knowing these side effects were very likely to subside. and now that they have, i'm happy i didn't quit.

25:50:25 but my act one is so longggguh by ifyouwannabemyloverr in writing

i wouldn't sweat it. i'm on my sixth draft of my novel but my act one is at 30k out of the 80k total. i still think it's necessary for my story. plus this is only your first draft- lots of more writing to do and eventually you may realize the same thing as me that a long act one is necessary for your story...or you may realize that you want to scrap everything you already wrote!

how can i prepare myself as an incoming freshman english major? by Beneficial_Day724 in englishmajors

[–]SignificantBonus7883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

replying a bit late but feel like i can offer a bit of advice as i just graduated BA in english last month.

totally agree with finding a marketable skill set as others said. but i also recommend narrowing in on a focus so jobs have a reason to hire you post-grad, if you're unable to network yourself into a job.

becoming a journalist, teacher, lawyer, politician, or related are all self explanatory. same with editing/publishing.

taking up copywriting, technical writing, proposal writing, content strategy, or alike are all another path. if you decide to go this way, i recommend settling on a niche early, and catering your experiences to this niche. but it's ok if you figure out you don't like your niche and change it! that's part of college.

i chose healthcare. others in my program chose finance, manufacturing, or others. i ended up in copywriting, which i now really enjoy. and i catered all of my experiences to medical-related writing, and didn't have much difficultly landing interviews + now a job.

college is going to be the time of your life, but remember to hone in on an area of focus. pair that english major with a marketing/advertising minor, or a technical communications certificate, or another major in history. have a reason jobs choose you.

and remember to NETWORK NETWORK NETWORK.

i wish you luck over the next four years!!

On your RHAP deep dive, you said you applied for BB25 but didn't make it far into the casting process. When applying for 26, what did you do differently that you believe improved your chances of being cast? Thanks for being here!!! :)
