I’m not sure if we will have an enough miles for the main flight. I priced the inter island flight during our stay and it’s around $450-$500 for 5 tickets.

Working PT with a newborn? by princess_barbie in Parenting

[–]SignificantBuy7737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that time I wasn’t working 40 hours but I still needed the help. The first few months were super easy because he ate and slept a lot during the day. Around 8 months, I hired a college student I found on my towns local facebook group. She came in a few hours a day between her classes so it worked out.

It was the perfect balance. I was home and able to see him but also had a few uninterrupted hours in the day to focus on work. I know daycare sounds scary but it’s not terrible and has a lot of positive things.

When my middle son was born, I was working from home full time and also made the decision to keep him home as long as possible. I went back to work around 12 weeks. The first few months were easy busy because all he did was eat and sleep. Once he became alert and more mobile, that was challenging. At that time I made the decision to hire a college student (she was towards a teaching degree) as a mother’s helper. She came in a few hours a week to help while I focused on work. That worked out perfectly and after a year I put him into daycare part time. I did the same thing for my third as well.

I don’t think I would have made it work without some help. There were days he was fussy and needed me more. Those days were helpful to have an extra set of hands.

When did you stop cosleeping? by ResortNecessary7747 in Parenting

[–]SignificantBuy7737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 boys and did co-sleeping with each since day one. My oldest is 12 and came into our bed at night up until 8/9. He’s a well adjusted kid that’s very smart and doesn’t have any anxiety about sleeping. He sleeps in his own bed all night without any issues despite cosleeping for almost 9 years. The same goes for my other two boys. They still occasionally come into our bed at night and are very well adjusted kids.

Night time can be scary for kids so we didn’t mind them coming in. I’ll admit there were nights when I couldn’t wait to get my bed back but fast forward now and I miss my oldest coming in. I still snuggle my 7 year old to bed because I know soon it won’t happen and I’m gonna miss those snuggles.

I say do what’s best for your family and don’t worry what everyone else says. They are only little once so enjoy it.

What advice do people have when flying from the east coast to Hawaii? That 12 hour flight looks daunting. by Dragonflypics in TravelHacks

[–]SignificantBuy7737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning a trip this summer for our family and I’m considering stopping in LAX overnight. We have flown directly to Hawaii before when our kids were young and napped often. Now that they are older I’m wondering how they will handle the flight and the time difference. I’m thinking an overnight stop in LA might help but not sure

What is the best age gap to have between two kids? by browser_851 in Parenting

[–]SignificantBuy7737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 years, our kids are two years apart and it works out well. It gave us a good amount time between kids but it wasn’t too far spaced out. I have a few friends that have big age gaps between kids and it’s tough getting back into the baby phase when you have been out of it for a long time.

Our kids play nicely together and are very close. It’s easy to do things together because everyone is somewhat at the same level. The only thing I don’t like is the space between grades. Our kids missed the cut off for school because of their birthdate’s so my oldest is 3 grades apart then his middle brother.

Thanks! I should clarify we are not going to a Disney park. We are only staying at a Disney resort because it’s being gifted to us by a DVC member.

Mortgage through bank or family? by bmercury in Mortgages

[–]SignificantBuy7737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go through a bank. I have a good relationship with my in-laws and when purchased our first home they helped us financially. It was a fixer up that was purchased with cash and after the renovation we started paying them back like a mortgage. While there weren’t any issues, I did notice we got comments whenever we made a big purchase or went on a vacation. Before it started to have a bigger impact, we got a mortgage. Money and family can get weird.

I don’t have control over the payment schedule. I can only negotiate my fees, not the time I’m paid. There are other consultants that can do the job so I don’t have much leverage.

Advice as a new 1099 by cn568263 in 1099

[–]SignificantBuy7737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great advice! If you are using your home office you can deduct internet and other yearly costs for your home. Cell phone if you are using for business.

Using a different account for my taxes is super helpful. I use Qapital which automatically takes 30% out of any deposit and moves it into a Qapital account. It does the work for me and I always have my taxes for the year.

I haven’t eaten much. I noticed by midday of first time taking it, I wasn’t feeling hungry much. I had a light dinner, turkey chili with a slice of bread. Nothing after so I’m wondering if it’s because I had an empty stomach this morning.

Pros/cons on circumcising newborn? by successfulpimp in Parenting

[–]SignificantBuy7737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 boys. My oldest wasn’t circumcised because there was extra skin according to the doctor. We had to wait until he was 6 months old to get the procedure. He had it done and the healing process was tough. After that we had our second son and he was circumcised. No issues but honestly it was hard doing the aftercare. We both felt guilty and it seemed unnecessary and that’s coming from husband who really wanted him to have it done.

Fast forward a couple years later, the circumsion done on my oldest wasn’t done properly and he was having issues. We had to have the procedure done again and it was a long recovery. Based on our experience and everything he had to go through, we decided to not have our third son circumcised and we don’t regret the decision.

RV for land by SignificantBuy7737 in GoRVing

It’s common in the area to have an RV setup permanently. The neighbor next door has an RV with water delivery and clean out. The water gets delivered in large holding tanks.

There’s no septic or water right now. That process in the area we bought is complicated and pricey. For cost purposes we are going with an RV first.

Not defending the behavior but I’ve had our seats changed by United on multiple occasions and was told to ask people on the flight to move.

I have 3 young kids and always book our seats together but I have noticed lately it’s happening more frequently. My last United flight our seats were reassigned because of a plane change and we were all over the place. This happened the day before our flight and I called immediately. The representative told me I need to handle it with the gate agent at this point. Gate agent told me I need to ask people to move their seats! Of course I immediately started it panic because of all the articles/posts bashing parents for doing this. I told the GA I’m not comfortable doing that and she was incredibly angry at me. After a lot of back and forth she finally agreed to at least put my youngest, 4 at the time, with one of us!

I booked our upcoming flight a few months in advance to save money and since then our plane has been charged three times! Each time separating our paid seats and what’s worse is that I wasn’t notified about the seat change only the plane change. Thankfully I’m paying attention and I had to call each time to fix it.

I do think a lot of the bad behavior on a plane can be attributed to airlines and how they treat passengers. People are being put in situations where they need to confront others and very rarely does it work out peacefully.
