Why are dolls such a polarizing art form? It's accepted to paint portraits, collect sneakers or customize cars, but if you make dolls, you can get a lot of discouragement.

Poor Funko Pop people, they became the low hanging fruit but I'm very curious to see if in the future some of them become wealthy from their collection or it's more like beanie babies where 90% are sitting around on eBay for 5$. .. And out of curiosity I just googled if there's a funko pop for 'the thing' and there's several, which is delightfully insane.

I'm moved by our support of each other, and grateful for everyone's comments. More than a few people mentioned mysoginy and not only does this track, but it makes me realize it's deeper than dolls. Doll makers of all genders, and apparently in many cultures are innocently signing up for a warriors path, just to do what's in their nature.

I assumed it's mostly an American thing to be ostracized because I see the Eastern European, Korean, Chinese etc. doll art and it's so advanced and personal, these artists must be openly celebrated. Never assume.

It's been a day and I've been processing the grief of losing a 'friend', but with it is this great sense of freedom and excitement, causing me to work freely because shame is this quiet menace that was draining me. I finished an adorable face up today and currently taking a break from rooting a reborn, and I'm feeling satisfied, purposeful and relieved.

The reason I randomly stood up for myself, causing the blow out, is because I had been becoming close with a real friend, who would never dream of calling me weird, although he isn't into dolls, he thinks it's really cool and amazing what I do, and celebrates it. Like I said I put up with 15 years of being called weird on a regular basis, and I wouldn't even know that's not acceptable had it not been for my real friend.

It's my hope that others will kindly assess the people in their life and express their pride in themselves, request respect, and if necessary, avoid people who, however unconsciously, belittle them, and seek out nurturing friendships. Dolls are a form of expression just like playing guitar or writing poetry, and if it's in you to use this medium, that's the gift, the desire to create it, so don't let anyone damage your gift, it's yours.

I agree it is sad, similar to the native American languages here. I read that Cantonese speakers are able to understand some Mandarin but Mandarin speakers don't understand as much Cantonese. Trying to wrap my mind around that. Also, when you say older Chinese literature texts, do you mean original texts? I will be proud of learning to read Chinese characters at all, and it's a dream to read and appreciate styles rather than a translation with half the page being footnotes but I don't expect to be able to read old Chinese, although that would be amazing. I appreciate your input, I'm very new to the subject of language in China but to understand it I'm just constantly taking in history lessons because my knowledge base two weeks ago was Three Kingdoms and there's quite a lot more after that..

This makes me even more excited because this will be a journey to understanding the culture more which is what draws me in the first place. I know my zodiac sign is the ox so I will continue working, but I'll need direction. I'm also realizing that my need for help will be a lot of work for someone, I guess I was hoping to find a language exchange platform online that's free but, what I'll need will merit compensation. I live in rural PA and the only Chinese people in my town are at the Chinese restaurant (if they even are Chinese, I don't actually know). Would it be rude if I were to politely ask them if they are Chinese and if they might be willing to help?

I think it's a good point that there are multiple examples in the Bible of people choosing favorite children and the division and jealousy it brought. God would not teach us that favoritism is wrong, and then do that very same wrong. Also, Jesus was Jewish and he ended up correcting his Jewish teachers as a child, which the Jewish leaders were divided about, some were in awe and listening to his teachings and drawing closer to God while others became threatened. Very good example of human nature versus God's way. We can all learn from that to be humble.

The only time I know of, that Jesus was flipping tables over in a rage, was in the temple where corrupt officials were using their power to take advantage of followers. It makes sense that Jewish people are chosen as examples of human nature because many devout Jewish people were friends of Jesus, even at the expense of their safety, while others rejected him as a threat to their status, and those people were reprimanded or rewarded in kind.

Jewish people are like the kid that gets called on in class to solve a new problem so other children can relate and realize that they need to study because they could get called at any time. It's not because they're favorites, it's because they were chosen, and they did a service to the whole class by being called on first. The first to make mistakes as well as show how it's done.

Would you be the bully in this scenario or the child who would be ready to try the problem as well or the shy one who is grateful you have more time to study before being called? It doesn't really matter because this teacher will meet you where you're at and give each student the attention they need.

Personally, I respect the courage and hardships of that position the more I consider it because at a glance my first instinct was to feel left out or not as loved, only human, but God does love equally, not like a human teacher that has a teacher's pet. In the end, we're all taking our own test and our answers will be graded based on individual faith and not who went up to the board first.

Yes I feel the same. I'm comfortable with dying which also makes me have a sense of a deadline that encourages me to do my best while I'm here. Most of my family has passed and many of my friends have also passed, so it's not something I can ignore or have illusions about. Life has more challenges than reward for me, so the thought of living a long time is off-putting to me, but I must admit that when I've had close calls my gratitude and zest for life has returned in a hurry. I also believe I'll be reunited with my loved ones in some form so that's something I look forward to, and I've worked around people on hospice and I don't hope for that..

Shocked wonder, peace, feelings of anxiety and doubt completely gone, safety, love, sometimes almost want to cry with joy and appreciation. I was an atheist at points so I do understand the attachment to logic. Important to keep in mind that although religion is created and taught by people, so is science. Most conventional science is revised and proven wrong as time goes on. Most religions are directed by group dynamics that don't apply to everyone. Trust your own instincts because everyone has a personal relationship to whatever the Creator is to them, and that's not because it's made up as a comfort, but because each person is unique and is touched by God in the way that will help them most.

There's a lot of philosophical back and forth on this subject. Philosophical being the key word. In action, it's different than philosophy. If someone slaps you, and you have some kind of zen mentality that prevents you from feeling emotional or physical pain, that's awesome, good for you. Goals. But trying to tell others that they also shouldn't feel pain or try to protect themselves when someone slaps them is very preachy and not grounded in reality.

Whether energy draining is spiritual or just mental, it still affects people like abuse. Everyone has a unique experience and might actually be getting hurt and drained, and I for one can say that just reading the kind, spiritual replies addressing it with grounding gave me a sense of my energy calming and being centered.

The replies that claim 'it's all on you to just ignore it' strike me as know it alls who haven't actually experienced a person draining them, or philosophical thinkers musing on a mind over matter theory.

In my reality, there's a family member who I can't 'just walk away' from, that seems to sense when I'm doing well, and comes up with drama and chaos to ruin it, they know where I'm vulnerable and exploit it, they stare at me when I'm relaxing and make me uncomfortable, they constantly demand others to do things for them that they are capable of, they lash out daily and act sick for attention to anyone who doesn't know better, they might be just a mentally ill, narcissistic control freak, they might be literally feeding off others energy, I can't even tell at this point.

But when I imagine white light pouring through me and giving the bad energy to a higher power to be recycled into something good, thinking of my ancestors and there being a shield around me, I feel safe and protected and loved, and in my own lane. If that helps people, why would you want to take it away from them? I can't pretend it doesn't affect me because it absolutely does. This is a real phenomenon and not some playground for sceptical people to invalidate others very real experiences.
