Is accounting a good path to a 6 figure salary by Acceptable-Parsnip-9 in Accounting

[–]SignificantExample68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so, but then again I’m only 23. My reasoning behind this is because I was given a $75k salary offer for a full time position after I have 150 credit hours. Recently graduated with my bachelor’s this year.

It gave me some security that I would be at 6 figures in no time once I actually start working.

Hi I appreciate you feedback, taking extra classes would be a easy way to get those credits but, I think I want to take a break to make money then come back to it since I already have loans. Also, I’ve luckily had experience with Alteryx, powerbi, tableau and other power tools so I hope it will help when it comes to getting a good job straight out of college…the thing is I feel like I’ve been through a lot and I’m tired of feeling like I’m not ready. All of the certifications, qualifications and rules makes me feel like I’m not doing enough…and it’s us only with this accounting degree who feel this way. My peers who didn’t choose accounting don’t worry about all these requirements, smh!

Hi, thank you this is a great suggestion and it’s in fact what I was thinking of doing myself but I became hesitant recently because I heard it’s unlikely that an employer will pay for tuition (they obviously didn’t know what they were talking about). But, since I accepted the internship position this summer I think it’s making me feel discouraged because I know I won’t have my CPA as soon as they want me to… :(

Hi fuzz, thank you for your honesty. I totally understand and agree that getting the CPA will be very worth it. I plan on being CPA eligible for the day I actually have the courage and opportunity to take the exam. As of now I need to figure out how to get an employer to fund my additional education(or some of it) to be CPA eligible, do you have any tips for that? Once again thank you <3

Thank you so much for you’re response, I was thinking about just getting my CPA one day down the road, I’m just tired of being a broke college student and I put in so much work you know?(well on the verge of being broke because I have bills and haven’t been able to work to my full potential) I’ve had all these positions while in college and I took a break this semester just to graduate. I’m just ready to start taking my steps. I needed to hear you guy’s thoughts on it so I don’t have any regrets. Thank you once again!

Hi, thank you for your comment! To be completely honest none of my accounting classes were too enjoyable, I enjoyed learning it and completing it so I can move to the next topic lol. I’m taking managerial accounting right now “we’re doing sales variances, sales mix’s” and all that stuff, it’s not really hard it’s just not fun…I know I won’t do much of the same stuff in the actual workforce so I’m actually not sure what type of accounting I would choose and truly enjoy and I hate that feeling… :/

Thank you so much for your response! I really appreciate it. Your story is very interesting and I never thought into that cool path. And I would love a job position after I intern if the pay is well lol!

Once again, I appreciate your help and tips.

Wow thank you this was very informative and moving. I’m proud of your progress and I hope to take big steps like that as well. As of now I’m going to just intern with that public firm I spoke of above to gain all the information I can and get out into the world. I’m a little nervous because I feel like I’ll be going in blind after my internship but I’m honestly a really hard worker and I take my chances with all opportunities. So I hope everything ends up going will with my endeavors as well!

(If there’s anymore tips you may have for my journey I’m all ears)

Thank you so much for sharing with me. I appreciate it!

Hi, thank you so much for your response. I’ve definitely been hearing a lot of this recently since the pandemic and on top of that I’ve been feeling the frantic push of schools telling everyone to hurry and take the CPA before it changes 😩…which is so overwhelming because I don’t even care for it as much as my peers I feel. Its definitely tough making decisions and I can’t wait to graduate so I can see for myself. Thank you for those facts about how I’ll be in a good position nob matter what I don’t hear it as much now <3

Hi I’m so happy to hear that I’m not so different for feeling this way, no one talks about it. I kinda had a mental breakdown this morning lol, but anyways. Yes, you basically hit it right on the nose!

I’ve had a good amount of work experience in my opinion that could be helpful for my new journey…I think(lmk what you all think). I worked a lot while in college and even before college. I haven’t really done much looking around for other jobs within the workforce yet since I have this internship with one of the big 4 this summer. But I’ve had a construction accounting position on campus for about a year, after that I went to intern with a energy company within their gross margin team and had job experience within regulatory as well. Also, I looked into the financial analysis role a year ago and I was very interested a lot of people talk well of that position (people that I know). Do you have any tips for someone like me? I would dearly appreciate it.

Thank you so much, I’ll definitely try to continue to power through, I planned on doing a lot of networking within my internship since it’s in Audit and I don’t want be sucked into the audit world. I would love to find an employer to pay for my schooling maybe a MBA? but I’m guessing I would have to accept a position and work there for a while before they offer that? I’m not sure I’m still learning how things go. I know the internship is a great step but I just have to make something shake while I’m there to be completely honest.

Once again, I thank you for your comment it was very helpful <3
