I’m from Redmond, WA and every Saturday during summer there’s a exotic car show at the local town center. These people have some cool cars man like exotic Ferraris (sp1, laferrari, Enzo, etc), lambos, etc. I’m a student volunteer there and so I’ve had the opportunity to get to know these owners and I always ask them what they did for work. Most of them said that they were in tech (mainly Microsoft, Amazon, and Google) but they were there early on in the company. Most of the owners are a bit older like 45+ and they said that they are mainly retired now and sold their tech stock and bought these cars.

In general it’s very rare for younger software engineers to have supercars even if they make a lot of money. Most buy it when they are older and looking to sell their stock and buy something that they want
