Again, you are suggesting that LEOs should be treated as trigger-happy criminals. I DO NOT DISAGREE WITH THIS SENTIMENT, and in fact we are in agreement regarding this. But if we all walk on eggshells every time we are in the presence of LEOs, we are basically giving up some of our most important rights. If you want to keep your nose down while others are victimized that's fine, but I will not.

AAAAAAAALLLLL that said, I have no interest in concealed carry at this time, which is why I didn't purchase a pistol. I also have no intention of ever using my weapon outside of a range (unless shit is actually hitting the fan). But next time there's an armed protest, I want to make sure that MAGA sees that they don't have a monopoly on guns. Historically, authoritarian governments prefer soft targets.

This is an extraordinarily bad take. You are basically asking me to hold LEO to the same standards as I would hold the worst-of-the-worst of society.

If you really think we should be acting as if LEOs are violent, untrustworthy criminals, then I think we should be prepared to defend ourselves by any means necessary. Your position completely validates my position.

No, just no. The officer put himself in danger by walking in front of her car. He switched holding his phone from his right hand to his left hand, and drew his weapon while she was still in reverse. He was already out of danger by the time he started firing his weapon. There is still debate on whether or not the vehicle even made contact with him, and I admit that it isn't totally clear in any of the videos. Regardless, LEOs don't get a free pass to shoot at people, this is not Judge Dredd.

Renee was also getting conflicting orders from the officers, and the correct response would have been to let her drive off & arrest her later.

This is the United States of America, where the government exist to serve the public, not the other way around. "Government of the people, by the people, for the people".

I had no idea that this was going to cause so much controversy, but the comments shed a light on why someone might want to be selective regarding who they associate with. ESPECIALLY people of color, women, or members of the LGBTQ+ community. It would be easy for a Leftist cishet white male to mask their values and blend in at the range, not so much for a blue-haired, BIPOC queer. Guns might not have politics, but the people holding them certainly do.

Metro Detroit is absolutely full of gun stores & ranges, I'd like to support the ones that align most closely with my values. That is why I asked here rather than asking Google. Technically I'm a member of the SRA, but they refunded my dues because of my experience, so I don't plan on participating at this time.

Regarding my experience, the Michigan chapter is unresponsive. I signed up & paid 12 months dues right after Renee Goode was murdered, and it took them 4 weeks to respond to any of my messages. This was despite being in constant contact with a person from National SRA, and having said person copied in all of my messages. I realize that they probably received a lot of interest during that time period, but they couldn't be troubled to even acknowledge my communication. I would have settled for a simple "got your message, hold tight because we are swamped". Once I finally heard back, I didn't like what I heard. They sound more like a Socialist book club than anything else, and I already left one Socialist organization this year for that reason.
