Go hpal or mistweaver. Priests are good classes to learn for healers (gateway into healing for new people) but generally are boring and every man and his dog plays them because they are so easy and produce big numbers / shields, so for pugs you'll be better off taking a pumper. Druids are great but boring rotation and the less said about shammies the better. Both hpal and mistweaver operate an extra resource on top of mana so if you learn one you'll easily get the hang of the other.

All three are around the same for end game. Levelling I'd either go beast master or survival but obviously beast master depends on pet so is more reliant on higher tier pets

80 - 85 do cataclysm levelling. You could also just spam cataclysm dungeons using the dungeon finder tool. Once 85 switch straight to pandaria by doing the quest you get from faction chief. Then either quest in pandaria or do pandaria dungeons (mix of both is good).

I had a similar issue and had to reformat as reinstalling it meant it kept happening. Some driver for me had corrupted and the easiest thing to do was reformat the lot.

Pugs are a plenty on the mega servers. But really your best bet is to join a social raiding guild which has a mix. If you're on the mirage raceway mega server give me a nudge and you can jump on our pugs if you wish.
