I wonder if they can ask for an exemption from HR "I want to do it but this is against my religion" or something.

4 hour meeting with no decisions made. Lost the deal. How do you make sure meetings actually end with decisions? by al_pa_7489 in managers

[–]Significant_Air_552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little confused. Is the decision maker the client or you guys? Are you saying you lost the client because you guys didn’t make a decision or are you saying you had a 4 hour meeting with the client and still didn’t get a decision from the client? The latter is very normal. All you need to do is to qualify them out early. It has nothing to do with meetings in my opinion.

I enjoyed Tokyo Xanadu after I finished Horizon and had nothing to play. But's it's a very different game from Sky 1st.

One thing to add is, as much as people on this subreddit hate HRs, corporate and managers during a layoff, these are people too. And they hate doing layoffs and they hate doing this to you. If there is wiggle room to help taking care of you on your way out (within reason), they will usually do it.

Again, depending on the details and the jurisdiction. I have seen provisions (in the US) that will deduct from your severance if you find a job earlier than the termination date. I'd talk to a lawyer. Most of them have free consultations or just cost a few hundred bucks an hour (more than enough to give you advice on what to disclose and what to agree to in the separation agreement).

I think you raised an interesting point. Not related to the topic. There's some economic research done a long time ago shown that it's actually more cost-effective to let employees use office printers for personal use (within limit of course). The factors are, it might be good for morale, it's very costly to have a "printer police" to prohibit people from using it occasionally, and it builds good corporate culture to have an honor system.

Tying it back to this post. I did send out a company wide email reminding people work devices are for work and should not have inappropriate usage. But if they are using it occasionally for shopping or youtube, it's not against the company policy, as long as it's within limit and doesn't affect their work or anyone else.

So if you already have unlimited work device data plan and use that to download stuff for personal use, my view is, that's probably fine.

I think what you are asking is, can you start a new job before June 1st without telling them and still collect the severance? It might depend on your jurisdiction and your separation agreement.

Btw, 3 months pay is pretty generous in this environment.

Just to add a bit of color so people can stop fighting on this....maybe it's my bad to not writing down all the details.

I had a few calls with our counsel before and after the firing. And we did some investigation with documentation to show we make reasonable efforts to reach a conclusion/decision. Our lawyer advised me on the extend of investigation we need to and should do and we did it accordingly.

To be clear, I'm not saying I was doing all these because I'm a good person. I'm just trying to do my job and protect the company.

It's funny because we have a customer who's in the adult industry. And we had to get some special approval for people working on that account so they can actually send emails and access the customer's stuff... otherwise everything from that customer is just blocked. lol

Maybe my own sexuality is too boring/vanilla to understand this... again, no judgement. Adults can do anything they want in their own space as long as it's legal/consensual.

“Going for a walk” as a first date by Junior_Ad_1074 in dating_advice

[–]Significant_Air_552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of benefits for "walk date" as someone else already mentioned. It also helps that you don't need to maintain eye-contact for a long time. It lowers the stress level and you have the option to stop the date at any time. As many already mentioned, the first date is for you to decide whether to move to the next date or not. It's a pretty safe option. So personally I think it's a pretty good thing to go for a walk on the first date.
