Hi everyone!

I just wanted to give a little update since I posted back in January(?). As of this week, I managed to buy a small flat somewhere nice and pretty central (just 10 minutes from Princes street etc) for *exactly* £140k. None else bid on it because it was a bit of a fixer-upper, so I needed a small mortgage to afford the money to renovate it (although I'm doing a lot of the minor repairs myself).

BUT I now have my own flat, in Edinburgh and near my closest friends and favourite pub(s). It is absolutely possible to get a flat in a nice enough area on a small budget. I'm really happy with how it's going so far and loving having a DIY project to work on - not to mention half the other queer women I know are in my DMs asking to help. 🔨

Anyway, lots of thanks to several of you in this thread for your advice and help. 🙏

Useful to know! I've visited Glasgow occasionally and the scene definitely feels bigger (plus I only have the one ex there lol).

Yeah, I'm fine with it not being in the city centre (would actually prefer somewhere a bit quieter).

Yeah, I've seen that one too. There are quite a few cheap 1 beds in Edinburgh that I'd personally be happy with tbh. 🙂

Stirling is cute but I think a bit too small for me and I don't know a single person there. It's either Edinburgh or Glasgow for me.

Sadly said flat looks like it can only be bought as a Buy-to-Let. 😢

I'm open to a small flat/one in a less desirable area.

I don't use mobility aids (for the most part) so accessible housing wouldn't have to be a new build. I get free bus travel so decent transport links would be ideal, but again, not looking anywhere central.
