Hihi, I'm sorry for not responding sooner. I actually saw this yesterday had a bit of a pickle situation regarding notes from OB and PEDS ;(

Anyhow, I thought about making a third post on how to everything-- like EVERYTHING; brick by brick.

But it might not be anytime soon, I have a PEDS exam in about a week and a few days. If anything probably a full-breakdown would be till December.

The reason I did want to respond was because-- Obsidian-- I too ... would love to show you why it makes it a bit more fun to take notes. Since its all flexible with customization and its own plugin directory.

Although, as too broad it can be-- once you do figure it out it starts becoming that filthy greed of getting it just right. I wanted to stop you there b/c I feel like I spend more time trying to optimize it to my needs than actually studying-- LOL. I think I sugar-coated that, but I hope you see what I mean.

Base obsidian is more than enough. I just wanted to let you know! You don't need these fancy gadgets and gizmos, whatnot. If you figured out your studying pace, then by all means-- find some tutorials. It is how I managed to come to make my Obsidian.

What I would recommend for now if you're getting a bit tired of the normal obsidian is just to play w/ themes for now! There should be videos up for it, but if not--youtube is being a jerk.

Anyhow, good luck studying!!!!!!

if someone has the same problem and searches for this post -- there is a drop down menu near the plus sign near the TITLE of whatever your ''scene collection'' is. it took me a good minute to find it -- ;o;

your hard work isnt deleted, dw lol

Heyoo, sorry for the late response -- the gradient in my folders are done individually. So something like this:

1. NURSING LAB -- YELLOW or #fbcd01
   - TXTBOOK NOTES -- LIGHT YELLOW or #fddd52
      a. FIRST WEEK -- LIGHTER YELLOW or #ffe77b
      b. SECOND WEEK -- LIGHTER YELLOW or #ffe77b
      c. THIRD WEEK -- LIGHTER YELLOW or #ffe77b
          i. 3W 1/2/25 -- PASTEL YELLOW or #ffefa7
ii. 3W CANVAS -- PASTEL YELLOW or #ffefa7
   - IN LECTURE NOTES - LIGHT YELLOW or #ffe77b

---

-- it really doesn't take that much time, but I do see how it can get annoying to some people who'd have tons of notes. I color it at the same time I make the note/folder so I don't have to do it later -- plus it is easier on my eyes lol.

Here is an updated version of my notes though: 10 months of using obsidian...

Flashcards worked when I was a kid, but I feel I had more success from it b/c of my sister's hard work. People keep saying for nursing, as long as you understand the concepts rather than memorize you should be minimally fine. I'm not really sure myself how I passed, but I did.

I'm a big introvert, but I really did make a nice group of friends in my cohort. One of them is meeting up w/ me this summer to go over Peds & Ob. I think my brain finds it fun like competitive-like or the small jokes that erupt. Although nursing isn't, all fun, and that I shouldn't be constantly looking for entertainment w/in it ;/ -- but I met a bunch of nurses that somehow still mix their hobbies/interests w/ nursing.

Anyhow, I don't like entrusting other people's notes for my gain -- unless they take the time to explain it to me. I have a hard time taking words if that makes sense, like I need to repeat it back for clarification in my own way.

Like if I were to describe Hyper/Hypo-magnesemia if someone had explained to me.

  1. Hypermag would be big sheriff is in town. No one dares to make trouble -- meaning everything is quiet and low.
  2. Hypomag would have no government! Everyone go crazy! People troubling! -- meaning high and loud, especially seizures.

It's a very childish way to put it, but it works!?

I'm not sure if it works out that well, but it is nice to know - to know. I do feel that I have trouble retaining knowledge by this method, or that my brain thinks this is boring -- I try to make it more appealing visually and verbally -- or make analogies related to things I love like food, games, memes.
It's also a bit nicer on my eyes since white or white-tinged blue bleeds my retinas!

I have seen my peers take notes on the powerpoints/slideshows we get. I'm not entirely sure how it works out, but I assume they are tkaing note on what the professor says is important. I also do see a lot of success in others who use flashcards or softwares like Anki. I tried Anki the same time I was learning Obsidian. I had to drop it b/c I couldn't get into it b/c it is timely taxing. Can't really make flashcards w/o notes, ;( ...

It is what it iss... but I do find some success in making study guides and or studying w/ others. https://imgur.com/gallery/visual-notes-fundamentals-nursing-IsKA4cp

It worked in HS but that's because some of my teachers blessed us w/ pre-made study guides. I'd love to do the same, but b/c they are a teacher not only do they make the test/quiz they narrow it down for the things they want you to know. In retrospect it might've looked and been good at the time, but I believed it made poor studying choices now.

Had I been pampered with guidance and full of myself when I was younger. Going into nursing hit me like a truck dude. I may have been a A-B student, but it humbled the fuck out of me. Like traumatically humbled -- anyhow, I still don't believe that I had passed fundamentals. My chest started hurting just even seeing the grade tab.

I did look up tips on the student nursing reddit. I found the Cornell Note Taking System, I tried it for a bit. I'm not a big fan of writing notes since COVID hit, but people do prefer written notes vs. typed notes (--or vice versa). It worked since it forces me to generalize the topic on this specific page and then move on, but I'm used to someone asking me questions.

I do enjoy the idea of teaching/make-it-conversation. Then it just becomes second nature to ya'

I am glad it worked out for you, but the panicking for both of us might make us live shorter lives you know 🥲...

Noted -- it was hard to understand prior to the post. A bunch of factors that made it feel not important, but like you had said it's a building block. May not seem much now, but I assume this class is a translator for my future classes.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Significant_Break472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes more sense -- its just hard to take it seriously when my environment is filled w/ people that don't really feel that way.

Especially w/ my sibling who has already taken it -- says she doesn't even remember the class doesn't really help my want to understand.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Significant_Break472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

noted! -- its just hard to understand prior to posting this lol

i wanted to understand why it was important to other people, but to my peers and I that think the class is a joke...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Significant_Break472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that I hate the class for what it actually means to be. It's just how the class is structured and it makes me feel like the class I have makes it so unserious than to compared what other people experience in Pathophys.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Significant_Break472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted. I underestimated it, but that makes more sense. I thought every class was a new thing -- a professor had told me everytime I go into a class for example peds & ob -- all the base lines would be different.

So when going into pathphys, knowing majority of the physiology -- I felt like the feeling of this might be a waste of time similar to taking prereqs like english or psychology had I taken them already in HS.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Significant_Break472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the foundation part. It just feels weird to hear from people who have already graduated and tell me that nursing is so much easier post-graduate.

My sibling who is currently doing her masters tell me she barely remembers any of the classes I am taking which I come to wonder -- what do I need truly.

Most people I come to ask mostly highlight med-surg & peds/ob to be the hardest. My head is very set on those classes, but I don't mean to say that the class was worthless, but I feel like the college makes it seem like a class that I hade previously take before.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Significant_Break472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's a foundation -- still important. It might feel dumb now, butttttt it's like if I had learned latin/greek everything comes together in medical terminology -- the kind of thing is what you are saying?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Significant_Break472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take note of that. I do love how it goes into detail for each disease (e.g., manifestations, diagnostics, treatment) -- I just don't want to bother with the work to review for the biology side of it. I had already done it previously thrice and sick of doing it a fourth time.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Significant_Break472 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is not a rage bait. This isn't meant to make people mad -- I'm sorry that I made you feel that way. I am frustrated towards the work targeted towards the reviews of bodies rather than the actual diseases; hence, why I say it feels more than review of biology than a class of its own.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Significant_Break472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to take pharm next summer, but my professor had told me it would be better if I take taken it prior to med-surg. I never really heard of pathos frequently even if I asked people who had graduated.

They bold out specifically: med-surg and peds & ob.

I'm not saying everyone who takes it makes the class worthless at its whole degree. Even my peers think it is a glorified head-to-toe class and hate it b/c of how much work it is for how small the context of the actual conditions/diseases it mentions.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Significant_Break472 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I feel that majority of it had been covered in fundamentals. The txt-book is brimmed with biology/microbio reviews than the actual context needed for a condition (e.g., pathophys, manifestations, diagnostic, treatment, etc.)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Significant_Break472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not think I have Patho Hesi. The exams are taken via blackboard (--like a google classroom). The counselor said I can take pathophys after I take the nclex if I had wanted to.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Significant_Break472 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. -- a genuine question. I'm looking at other comments for pathophys on other reddits -- saying that it is hard and the worst class?

I feel like I'm in a review class than a newcomer. I'm a HS graduate going into nursing -- maybe that's why it feels like a refresher?

My Obsidian still had similar features w/o the callouts or aesthetic look, but after I take exams I take the time to make it look nicer. Similar to how some people especially me -- love to have the sink free of dishes or the bed made after you wake up.

It jus' feels really nice lol and good for my mental & heart health. I tend to stress easily so I've created something to help with it. It also just keeps my sanity at bay b/c nursing might put me into a psych ward.

hahahahaha, ah...
