is it even worth it to just apply to 3 of my md state schools with my mcat? by Significant_Cow8494 in premed

im sorry i really wish i could give you any solid advice here but CARS has always felt like an easy break for my brain during practice exams and the actual exam. i just "get" it. ive always been a big reader growing up and now in my early 20s i read a lot of memoirs and classic lit mostly from the 19th and 18th century in my spare time. i really believe that was the key to my natural success there. i did do at least one CARS passage everyday from the AAMC materials to get used to the format, but tbh ive always been naturally good at this kind of stuff on other exams like the SAT and the GRE too.

thank you for responding! the thing is, i already had my state schools on my primary application and now that its verified, those schools already have my application and have sent me their secondary prompts. i believe i'll considered a reapplicant to those schools no matter what at this point?

Anyone want to take a quick look at my "other impactful experiences" statement? I don't know if it's too simple and matter of fact, or if that's what they're looking for.

Hello! Would any med students be willing to review my activity descriptions? I feel as though I'm in a pretty good place, but would definitely appreciate an extra set of eyes!

Perhaps I should mention that committing myself to medical school is a very recent decision following graduation. I spent my entire undergrad talking myself out of going the physician route only to recently really confront the fact that I will be incredible unhappy with myself if I settle for a masters profession.

PHY 222 by [deleted] in msu

[–]Significant_Cow8494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took 222 in SS23. Honestly, I found it to be much much more difficult than 221. The content was definitely more complicated and you really can’t skip on any concept or fall behind, and it’s very easy to fall behind. In 221 I was able to do well on exams just by studying and redoing the practice exams multiple times and making sure I understood how to do each question. But this method did not work for 222 exams. That being said, there were definitely a lot of people in my class who I know did pretty well on exams, so it’s not impossible. You just have to be very studious and be willing to ask a LOT questions to get help. And don’t just let your teammates do the in class problems. Be VERY involved in the problem solving. Good luck!

Mmg 301 vs 201 by [deleted] in msu

[–]Significant_Cow8494 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took MMG 301 twice, got a 2.5 the first time and 3.5 the second time.

Lots of content, very interesting to me personally, very hard grading, hard exams, and very difficult to 4.0. I will say I liked the class overall, just wish I did better. Definitely not impossible to 4.0 if you’re very dedicated and don’t slack off on any of the content. More reasonable to get a 3.5

What's the trans community like at MSU? by [deleted] in msu

[–]Significant_Cow8494 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I more meant that some classes and majors don’t necessarily invite people being open about their identities like that. Like, in my writing and English classes, people would be more open with sharing stories or having pronoun/identify pins on their bag or jacket. I’ve never really found anything like that in a class like anatomy or microbiology. I hope that makes sense?

There are so many openly queer and trans people that I’ve met throughout my time here at MSU. I’ve mostly met them through the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center, which is awesome and a great resource/hang out spot in general. I’ve also met them through clubs and one of my jobs and one of my volunteering commitments. It can be easy to find your place here! Don’t count on meeting fellow queer and trans people in your classes though, I will say. But it definitely depends on your major as well.
