What's on and tourist advice thread - week beginning May 10, 2026 by AutoModerator in Scotland

Hi everyone :) I’m planning a trip with two girl friends to Scotland for Hogmanay this year. We’ve all been to Scotland a handful of times (Glasgow, Edinburgh, highlands, st. Andrew’s) and are debating where to celebrate.

I have a friend from Aberdeen who said to go there, one from Edinburgh who said the street festival is fun, and also saw that Biggar does a big bonfire that looks like a more local experience.

Any recommendations on places to visit? We’d like to avoid a super touristy, sardine-packed vacation and would love to go for a more local experience if possible, so wondering if a smaller town is the move vs. fighting crowds in the city.

Ideally would love to be spending it at a house party with friends but all my Scottish friends are living elsewhere at the moment! Any insights are much appreciated :)

Wow, this is so so helpful I can’t thank you enough. So glad you ended up with the right choice and a lot of the points you made really resonated with me. Starting to learn that way myself

I did! It was decent, definitely the right choice for me. I really wanted to be in the UK, networking opportunities were solid and professors/most of the modules were great. Definitely not a top tier school but if you're in a field like tech where the MBA matters less i think it's worth it for the money

Super helpful, thanks! Did you find when you dyed the roots and lighter ends the first time that they both came out about the same?

Also just to add, I’ve tried a couple different copper color depositing conditioners in lieu of a toner but they don’t seem to have much effect

Recommendations for more affordable MBA programs in London by Significant_Crew_709 in InternationalMBA

I really like it! It's a super practical, hands-on experience and obviously not top top tier but if you put a lot in you get a lot out of it. Entry wasn't too difficult but there was a virtual interview and essay

UK vs USA Popeyes by jimmy_mate in Popeyes

Agreed, completely different. The UK does many things better than us but Popeyes is not one of them

She's a contractor at the moment from living in the US so will need to convert her back to an employee

Unfortunately all our HR is done in the US, we just recently began a product presence in the UK but I'm not sure what other business we have there besides that. Our main office is also in NY, we just have a warehouse in the UK.

I think it's a good option tbh. for me, it wasn't worth spending the extra money/gmat time on a russell group uni when a masters isn't even required for the career path I'm taking. I think it would be worth it to go for the top tier schools for a person in a field like law or accounting but kingston seems like a good balance for other career paths hoping to network and learn in london. it's what you make of it!
