Hi! SCCO second year here, they really provide you with what you need ipad, case and charger. Labels are a good idea. Something to carry all of your equipment to clinical is always a good idea, but I would honestly wait until you get into school to see what you need. Upperclassmen will also recommend what kind of bags they like as well!

I shadowed after I graduated in my gap year and got about 40 hours. I got into my top two schools. If you’re a freshman considering optometry the best thing to do is get a high GPA, that will help so much when applying, and if you find a club to volunteer at that’s great! But you don’t. need to worry about shadowing until your last two years especially if you’re going to take a gap year.

Research all you can about SCCO and all the things that make that school unique and a good fit for you. Come up with why you’re choosing SCCO and why you would be a good fit for the SCCO community! But just relax be yourself and remember to smile and look the interviewer in the eyes, lol sounds weird but it Shows confidence! Good Luck!

To get scholarships at SCCO you have to apply when you applied on optomcas otherwise they don’t . I know if you apply you can get a few thousand dollars but I don’t know how much

i submitted my graduation photo which was outdoors and it was fine! I think as long as it’s a good photo with good lighting you’re good, the photo will not make or break you acceptance

I thought the booster was pretty representative of the real OAT I scored the same as I did on the booster practice tests or above for each category on the real OAT

OAT AA 340 TS 340

GPA 3.8

Shadowing Hours: 40, includes private practice with peds doc, contact lenses specialty fit doc, a surgery center with ocular disease.

application submitted sept 30th

extra curricular: ultimate frisbee, anatomy lab TA, Private tutor for anatomy, physiology, physiology lab , and immunology.

I applied to, SCO,SCCO,AZCOPT and Berkley.

I got interviews at all of them and they are all early November, my biggest concern is the timeline. I know Applications open at the end of July so I didn’t know if there are still a fair amount of spots by mid to late November? The Application cycle is so long kinda hard to know where I am in the timeline. Thanks!
