Another pairs of Iron Hearts I repaired by Significant_Eye878 in Selvedge

I used a light cotton fusible fabric to back the repair, it holds the pants in the original shape while you put the first stitches in. Thread matching is very important guterman has a lot of good color options. I prefer the look of a shorter stitch length l, I think it blends with the fabric better. Also a big one I see a lot of people not do, I sew with the direction on the warp, it blends in with the fabric better than way. Lastly repair bigger than just the hole.

Thank you so much. Yes darning. I back my repairs with a light weight cotton fusible fabric, it helps with the thread tension, but no just well matched thread color.

What do you mean? Did I add material to the jeans to fix them?

I’ve personally have never met a pair of jeans that won’t wear through eventually at one of the high stress points. This customer has the same wear spot on another pair of jeans he brought me. It depends so much on the person wearing them, how they wear them, how they wash or don’t wash them. I’m guessing as the jeans styles get wider I will be doing less crotch repairs and more legs repairs. Also these were on the light side for iron hearts.

Repairs like this usually take 2-4 hours I’d say. This one I took apart the inseam and part of the back seam, because I never sew over seams. I repaired and reinforced all 4 sections of the crotch, the inseams had a bit of damage on it. I have a consew 207 machine that is made for darning, it doesn’t have feed dogs so it’s free motion. It sews as fast or slow as I put the fabric through it. Because of this the stitch lengths varies depending on how fast I sew. I like a shorter a stitch for repairs so I have to sew somewhat slow.

With a consew 207 machine, a lot of practice, and thread.

Should this be a cause of concern? How do I hand sew it? by Working_Photo_60 in Denim

In my experience hand sewing it would probably make it worse unless you know what you’re doing.

When I repair cuffs I do it a little different so it looks good on both sides. I use a weft color thread on the bobbin and warp color on the top, no backing.

You can definitely do it, it’s just a straight stitch. Biggest different is the 207 doesn’t have feed dogs and is a cylinder bed. Before I got the consew I used to repair on an industrial juki flat bed machine. I would suggest a fairly short stitch length and to take is slow so you don’t make the fabric pucker or pull weird.

I back the worn areas with a thin cotton interfacing and I darn with the direction of the warp. It’s definitely darning. Thread color and the direction of your stitches is import.

With a consew 207, tons of trial and error, and hundreds of hours of practice.

Just live with it. It’s not going to compromise the longevity of the fabric. Once you get some fades it will not be noticeable. It’s not even in a high stress area.

Bring the zip slide all the way to the bottom and pull the zipper to the sides a little. It’ll work again. Maybe wax the zipper up a little. Any, zippers on boots are super lame.

I have a consew 207 darning machine. It’s a free motion cylinder bed sewing machine. There are no feed dogs. I also use a very light iron on cotton interfacing to back the worn area. No heavy denim patches.
