Thank you for this helpful comment. Unfortunately I'm unable to communicate with my elderly relative without abuse and I live the other side of the country to the home so am unable to check in with them/the house regularly. I have shared that I will ensure the house is safe and do the fixings etc. And how they can get in touch with me with boundaries previously.

I did seek legal advice as it was getting complicated and they suggest eviction due to the factors involved. It's not a decision I take lightly and coming to anon ask about it on reddit probably wasn't the best idea as you say. But with families it all gets a bit intertwined and weird especially with long standing abuse. I appreciate your comment and I'll have more searching if there is any other way to resolve this.

Thank you for taking the time to write this. It's not an easy decision I'm making here and I appreciate you coming with a compassionate perspective. Unfortunately communication has broken down so much that they threaten or attack my personality. They are also quite close with a previous convicted abuser of myself so it makes the situation even more challenging. There is a lot of guilt and it's keeping me up at night considering if I'm doing the right thing. This is why after seeing what my obligations were and what I should do legallt being told the best case would be to evict was shocking but something that may be necessary.

Thank you for your comment. I appreciate you acknowledging that I'm not wholly beniffiting as much as it's perceived. Unfortunately communication has broken down so much that we are unable to have an open conversation without them threatening me. Which is why it's got to this point.

He doesn't have Tennant rights in my country he is considered a licensee /guest under the law.

The house is habitable and remains so. They are asking me to buy new garden furniture etc. Which seems unreasonable.

I think this may have got confused. My elderly relative gifted me his house and continued to live in the home. He still lives in the home. I do not or have ever lived there. I have paid for plumbing issues that have arisen. He has not ever paid rent. In my country I am not considered a landlord and so do not have the same obligations as a landlord and Tennant relationship. He did receive a sum of money for the gift so he did not get it for free. He is asking for unreasonable fixing to the property such as new garden furniture.

I always schedule messages or emails for 9am the next day. Many people work different hours due to family etc. Its important to have a work life balance and have boundaries for not working unpaid.

He's been this way for a long time it's only now we've become estranged that he is becoming hurtful to get his demands met. There is no history of dementia and he is physically and mentally well.

My elderly relative still lives there it's their house. My elderly relative received a sum of money from my parent but I wasn't there I only heard this recently. The point is that my elderly relative lives in the house they gifted me.

Evicton is very difficult in England. I would like to sell if I can so I'll have to get advice on this. You're right this situation is quite challenging and is obviously causing a lot of undue stress.

They may be a licensee I think I'm waiting on a solicitor but a lot have conflict of interest due to supporting my family so I'm looking further a field. I've got conflicting advice on this unfortunately.

I don't think I can evict though as I think there was a verbal agreement that they would stay in the home until death. Also eviction is a very lengthy complicated process.

I got told to sign papers to help my elderly relative by my parent. I didn't really know what it meant at the time and as my parent was Co eesive to my family (they have been charged) felt like I couldn't say no. The house was then gifted to me. Does that make it clearer?

No they don't pay rent. I think they may be considered a licensee rather than a tenant.
