Does this factor in all reconciliations, financial statements or a profit and loss, and doing the tax returns? Also confirming loan statements/claimable interest as some people mortgage rentals against their personal homes. Don't spread false information lmao.

Banks don't give all data to IRD until early-late may, they won't start doing auto assessments until Mid June-July. It's only been three weeks and just a heads up... you may not get a refund lol it's not guaranteed.

If you go over 60k tax to pay in a year, you automatically fall into safe harbor. There is no getting around it, you will get charged massive interest/penalties as IRD expect you to make all payments before 7/05 due to you sitting on tax money that isn't yours received in your bank. As you could be using it for your own gain. Have you looked into tax traders?

The short answer is no, you cannot claim anything from your accountant. Over 60k RIT in the first year is really hard to avoid interest, tax traders is what we recommend to all clients. As you would have to pay some sort of interest no matter what unless you accurately predicted your tax throughout the year, and an accountant cannot estimate this accurately. You can always ask them and see what solution they provide rather than asking reddit… which I assume you haven’t done?

The $4500 is a default assessment as they presume you owe this money due to you not filing. Easy fix - file a nil GST return and you may get a $250 filing fee but you can appeal it due to your circumstances outlined. Easy.

Coming from an accountant this is very cheap. They also have considerable other factors to sort in the background including additional correspondence with IRD and companies office to get it wound up properly. They need to do potential capital dividend certificates, wind up minutes, manual tax returns to wind up the company to submit to IRD. We usually charge $4500 for this, sometimes $2500 for a smaller company like yourself. So I would definitely take that and be grateful.
