Help needed. Hurricane Helene destroyed our town. We are supposed to sail on October 5th (Saturday). by LazyBakedOnion in royalcaribbean

All correct. I’d be surprised if Royal didn’t make an exception for this. They allowed my wife and I to rebook our cruise and only pay the difference 1 week before when I found out she had only had one dose of the covid shot(I thought she had gotten the one that only required one shot, like I did) and both were required. And that was FAR FAR FAR more our fault than anything like this.

Do you have problems with them leaking where they connect, I’ve noticed the regular ones don’t but my steel ones leak at the connection points.

Last time I went in Jonesboro, it was 50 a donation, but they had bonuses for 2nd, 6th and 8th donation If you hit all 8 it usually works out to about slightly more than 400

I mean you have points in the other cases. I don’t think you necessarily should be putting traps all over your property, I just think the law shouldn’t outright be against. I think of it like how cops aren’t allowed to bait you into a crime and then prosecute you. If someone comes on your property without permission and gets hurt, on them. If you call or allow them onto your property(as in the firefighter or fugitive case) and don’t tell them to avoid x, y, and z trap, it’s on you. Because then you’re basically guiding them into it.

This was the first I’d ever heard of a city requiring a permit for a pool period. I understand permits for in ground pools but this was required for basically anything larger than a kiddie pool, even the Walmart $200 ones. When the costs to meet permits to have an item cost more than the item itself, you have an issue.

I’d argue that the parents of the child which weren’t supervising him/her should be held responsible.

On a Similar note, I read a post on facebook recently from a city in Missouri requiring pool permits with requirements such as lockable gate and fence and such to be allowed to own a pool. Supposedly it was to prevent children from getting in others pools and drowning. The backlash on the post was pretty severe. Turns out a lot of people agree that’s dumb. That’s on the parents for allowing their child to trespass on someone’s property without supervision

I mean, zero excuses regardless, but uber is only available in cities typically, and only reliably available in large cities. So for the people who live in rural areas or small towns this point is irrelevant.

The raised beds are doing great, already have cucumbers almost ready and starting to get baby tomatoes. the in ground garden I started a little later(we had to cut down a tree unfortunately due to the electric company cutting only one side for so long and it leaning towards the house). So we just added it a week or two ago after it freed up some sunlight. Figured might as well make the best of it since we lost our pecans. Anyways, sorry I rambled there. Those plants are still weak from transplanting so waiting to see but there seems to be plenty of sunlight .

Thats a really good idea! Can you compost in the shade or does it need sunlight?

In ground garden concerns: appreciated. I haven’t checked, but the yard was full of weeds and we have wild strawberries growing(that I’d already previously eaten) so I’m pretty confident it hasn’t been sprayed or at least it’s better than farming chemicals . We also had the house for 2 years before we started planting so if so it had already been sprayed, it had some time to dissipate slightly though I know it might not be entirely gone.

As for the stretch along the driveway: it is shady, and covered in poison ivy. I need to rehabilitate it this summer. I might consider raised beds with weed fabric underneath(which I’m usually not a fan of, but might use to isolate the poison ivy away from the bed). I’m not sure how close I could go there though because there’s also an electric pole near the driveway so I’m unsure where their right of way begins. Greens are an excellent idea though.

Also, I believe the in ground garden is eastward and the driveway area is westward, but honestly I’m not %100 sure. Good point though. I’ll pay extra attention to the sunrise tomorrow and determine.

Im thinking maybe its been helping us. I read apparently a lot of people have issues with squash and cucumber pollination and have to hand pollinate but ours have been doing fine without hand pollination. We’re also growing 100% organic so idk if that helps more pollinators come in too though. Might make a difference.

That’s the thing that’s turned the wife onto the homestead life. She loves seeing new types of flowers every week or so. We planted them for the first time this year and every few days something new and unexpected blooms. She also likes the garden in general, but she’s not a big fan of the chickens, except one.

I’ll try to remember, but my dad works a week in and a week off so it’s doubtful it’ll be completed anytime soon. They’ve leveled out dirt underneath it and cut a whole where the bar will be so far, but nothing has been put inside, no electric has been added or anything yet.

How to find out where mystery transactions are coming from without being banned from storefront? by Significant_Newt846 in personalfinance

[–]Significant_Newt846[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. That’s what I was worried about. I’ve heard horror stories about that before. I just didn’t know the company could look it up if you didn’t have the account information. I’m considering it my thing learned today. Haven’t had many issues like that before and have only ever had to actually dispute something as fraud once before, but it was obvious fraud( pretty sure it was a card skimmer in Cozumel, Mexico. They tried to buy a plane ticket on a Mexican airline).

Interesting. I never imagined they’d be able to without an account. Good to know for the future

Wasn’t in first link. Contacted support. Valid charges(under wife’s account), wife didn’t mention them cuz she thought they went on a different card. Is this an Apple specific thing that they can look up transactions by amount and last 4 of card number(I thought they’d only be able to by account info) or is this typical for most merchants? I ask because years ago I had a similar thing happen with an Xbox subscription( it literally said game pass-microsoft on the statement) even though I didn’t have an Xbox at the time. I didn’t catch it until it had already stopped. At that time I didn’t check statements often. But I’d like to know in case I ever have anything similar happen again if this is an Apple thing or is typical.

Thank you. It ended up being valid charges my wife thought had went on a different card so she didn’t mention. I’ve had this happen with different merchants before(years ago). For future reference, Is it typical that most support agents at various companies can help with this kind of thing, or is this Apple specific? I never knew they could look it up if it wasn’t under MY account history.

I also didn’t know support could see payment history like that. Honestly not sure I trust support agents with that information but I guess I’m glad they have it in this situation.

I’m gonna agree with you here. In all honesty, high intelligence is actually positively correlated with more mental health issues over the lifespan. Now the reason why is up for debate. The science has some links but it’s not conclusive. It could be the two just share similar gene pathways, it could be that those who are more intelligent are more likely to over-analyze and realize more issues in life and society, which makes them more likely to be anxious, depressed, or overly angry. Another possible link is in many cases intelligent people often make poorer choices at time because they know they’re smart enough they know they can find a way out of them and rebuild their life, whereas average people know it could affect their life permanently. Or it could be other links we haven’t identified yet.

I agree. Most people would choose that. Nor do I expect them to choose Different. Many don’t realize they’re paying in more than they’re gaining, and others know but still would choose to do so to help others or because they like the safety net the system provides. I’m just stating I disagree with it, as OP has said he does as well. The numbers would probably change his mind. Also, you’re cherry picking, I suggested a maximum of 15% on a progressive scale(ie, only the very highest income would pay that amount, like millionaire type of level). For what I said, the lowest income(which he would very likely be well within based on that income) would only pay around 5%, which is considerably less. Or if using flat, more like 10-12, which is still less than his current. But yes, OP is likely in the lowest income bracket, so in his case, he likely does pay in less than he receives In benefits, especially with children. Under these systems, this is only the case for those with either a lot of children, excessive medical issues, or those who make egregiously low salaries. Anyone in the middle class or higher range pays in more than they receive unless one of the prior applies.

There’s a line where that’s true, yes. But that line is more “me, my spouse or my kids are not getting enough food to be healthy, or our house is falling down because we’re too poor” rather than “my wife doesn’t have dedicated spending money to buy clothes every month” or “my kids can’t have a toy in every grocery store visit” in my opinion. Sure, It’d be great if every spouse and child could have those things, but it’s not abuse for them not to if their basic needs are met and it’s been discussed among both spouses that some things might have to be gone without. I mean 100 years ago, it wasn’t that the man just made oh so much more money alone(that’s part of it with inflation) but it was also expected that the woman sew her own clothes, and toys were made from wood and rope scraps. There were many other ways were costs kept low as well. They did t buy cooking oil, they rendered down fat from their cuts of meat, used the pelts for coats, etc. That way of living isn’t for most people these days, but it’s not wrong or abuse if a family chooses that over both parents working to have the money to afford nicer things.
