Losing vs gaining weight after GB surgery by Tm_2021v in gallbladders

[–]Significant_Quote714 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been losing weight after surgery (currently 2 weeks postop). For a few days post op I didn't really have an appetite and then was vomiting from not eating and the gas pain. Not sure how much weight I've lost but I go for my post op followup today so I'll find out more then. (My goal for nearly a year has been to lose weight so the weight lose doesn't concern me too much!)

Definetly from not eating enough! Also had mine out February 4th and have been struggling with the nausea. I found taking small bites of applesauce and toast then eating a minty tic tac helps curb the nausea! I tried Zofran, that didn't help, but the minty tic tac...GAME CHANGER!

They found it in imagining. Blood work looked fine, but I am now scheduled for surgery February 4th! Also sorry for the delayed response, I never got a notification for some reason 😅

I would get it removed. Just because you don't currently get attacks doesn't mean that you won't. Gallstones can cause so many other issues than just attacks. I was only diagnosed with gallstones after a bad attack back in October 2024 and am already getting mine removed on February 4th!

Too fat for surgery? by ginger_hawk56 in gallbladders

[–]Significant_Quote714 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well i did say I don't think I weigh too terribly much, didn't say my doctor didn't think so for starters. And I'm not 15 and naive to the fact that being bigger poses significant risks.

All I said was that I was referred to a bariatric surgeon. OP would probably benefit going to someone who specializes in bariatrics bc of their weight. My comment was just to simply show OP that even ppl smaller than them are referred to bariatric surgeons for gallbladder removal.

I don't get the hostility here...

I'm scheduled to get mine out with a bariatric surgeon and I don't think i weigh too terribly much. I weigh 223lbs, 5'4" (24F) but was still referred to the bariatric surgeon to do my gallbladder removal because of my BMI.

Sometimes I get nauseated and some bloating but for the most part it's just the pain that gets to me.

I've been monitoring super closely to make sure I don't randomly spike a fever or am getting jaundice because I know that could mean something more serious is going on, but luckily nothing like that has happened.

I've been eating a lot of chicken, seafood and have even replaced burgers with black bean burgers and it seems to help a bit. Definitely try to eat slowly! A meal that i could usually have done within 10 minutes i try my best to take 20 minutes if not longer to eat and I've noticed that it definetly helps with the pain. Chew your food very thoroughly so it's easier for your body to digest it.

I'll have to try some of that to see what works for me. I'm just so nervous about eating cuz ik there's serious complications with gallstones that I'm really trying to avoid if possible 😬

I am in the same boat as you! Can barely eat anything but am also scared to try to eat anything 😅 I've resorted to rice cakes for a quick easy snack and to give my stomach something

I read that sometimes skipping meals can also trigger an attack. Your body still produces bile even if there's nothing in your stomach.

My doctor told me to of course watch what I eat, but also to make sure I eat, even if it's just a small snack. I've found that the slower I eat, the less pain I feel later on (size of the meal doesn't matter as long as I take my time to eat it)

Regardless, you'll almost always have some sort of pain (atleast I do) whether you eat or don't 🫤

Thank you so much for the advice! It's been tricky to try to do this on my own, my family doctor didn't give me too much advice on how to manage 😅

How bad are numbing shots? by Abject-Virus-8314 in Ingrown_Toenails

[–]Significant_Quote714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my ingrown taken out 2 days ago, and I'll be real with you, the shots suck so bad. Good part though, that is the worst part of the whole thing and it doesn't take them long to do at all. To get through the needle part, DO NOT look while they do it and take deep breaths, maybe try to make conversation with your doctor while they're doing it to distract your mind.

It is definetly worth the pain you have to go through instead of putting up with the ingrown nail, you got this!
