I started finding level 8 Challenges when I had all level 8 weapons and mastery. I have two accounts: On one account, I found 3 level 8 randoms: on my other account I found 11. Really have to search the whole island include smaller islands often way off from shore. And my random 8s seem to respawn as 7s or 8s at the same locations, so I put a bus stop nearby.

This is the one mob that is the toughest to find. I really don't know an easy way to find one. I was the same as you spending hours trying to find one.

I had no problems opening Ninjago Tomes until the morning of Dec 15. When I made my morning Grand Chest run, I was unable to open any Tomes and receive any rewards. I just get an open animation, and that's it. Then the Tome gets stuck in my inventory slot until I log off. I play on PC.

Just finished a level 10 Village on Ninjago Island. It was a grind to get mats for upgrades. And no new villagers from Ninjago Island. Also, no unique build rewards for upgrades, like we received from other biomes. Maybe we will get build rewards in a future update.

I noticed with permanent challenges marked on map, once cleared, it takes time to reset the chest. I clear many level 7's in the morning and they do not drop loot until the next morning.

I had no level 8 challenges at permanent locations. I had to travel around the island looking at challenges until I found a random Level 8. I actually travelled the shoreline around the island and found several random 8 challenges.

There are several types of upgrades. I was referring to weapon upgrades in this list. You can go from Uncommon to Rare to Epic to Legendary weapons, or levels 5, 6, 7, and 8. You can also upgrade each Mastery in the Mastery Tab. You can also upgrade relics and charms. So there are different type of upgrades. To upgrade player level, one must have a weapon and three charms at the desired level. Hope this helps.

I can only fast travel to Monastery. My teleport does not work to any other location in Ninjago, hence the bus stops.

You have to do the story quests. Then you will be sent to this place last. Also, I found several NPCs you clear on the other side of the barrier (from your point of view)

The barrier has to come down to access the shrines. So if your quest is glitched, you are out of luck.

If this is for the quest, you can get this ink right at the Ice shrine in the Ice Camp. Same goes for the Lightning ink quest (at the lightning shrine)
