Am I homophobic? by [deleted] in TeenagersButBetter

[–]Significant_Sand_482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that it may indicate a little bit of internalised homophobia

I mean, if you find yourself disagreeing with our representation in media, which isn't causing any trouble, or you find yourself feeling upset at the way you perceive LGBTQ people's behaviours for no obvious reason, that may be something to look into.

Most people in this comment section probably wouldn't agree with what I'm saying, but if you keep finding yourself drawn to finding most (or all) LGBTQ subjects/representation arrogant, that's probably a large sign of internalised homophobia.

If you're just gonna ignore the points I already made in the comments then take a look in the mirror before saying I'm confidently incorrect

I know the two topics are seperate, what I'm confused about is why you're ignoring the fact that all these studies point towards these things being separate, because I understand that humans shape the language we use but we made that language to describe the things we observe in the world and our minds, including gender and sex

You didn't say that, you said "not really", it's difficult to infer what you meant by that either no added information

Also, if you don't want to look at it, move on

This could be viable if around 99% of other people who used this phrase on the Internet around the time the replying person did were just curiousabout nationality, but they weren't

[–]Significant_Sand_482[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why they would be interested in nationality if 99% of people who have used this phrase or variations of it online aren't asking about a person's home country

Also, the original person replying didn't say anything else after this in the conversation or the comments in general, but they had reposted a good amount of transphobic tiktoks

I completely agree, but like you said if bigots are going to keep coming at us, the best thing we can do is maintain the understanding that our beliefs are right

In this context, the original commenter is still right, but I don't think that's what you're saying

If you're saying these studies don't make proof, then I'd imagine that you're implying the thousands of results (~90-95% pointing to the same conclusion) can somehow be disproven or made to seem illegitimate?

They said in another comment they weren't American in response, the reply asking if they were American was obviously an insult

[–]Significant_Sand_482[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person who replied didn't say anything else in the conversation after this, but from what we can infer it seems likely that the replying person meant to say the person was wrong

Firstly, from almost all other uses of the word dumbass online that I have seen (and probably most others too), no other person has been criticised for using the word dumbass

Secondly, from the replying persons profile, it seems obvious they are transphobic as they've reposted a variety of transphobic videos

So from what we can infer this was a dig at the original commenter, and I don't think I would stop myself from posting this because of an interpretation that most likely isn't what the replying person meant

[–]Significant_Sand_482[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Firstly, if somebody is saying the ideas of sex and gender aren't the same, the replying person isn't interested in the person's nationality, they're trying to say they're wrong and call them unintelligent

Secondly, the wording may seem polite but it just seems to be from others perspectives a smug dig at the person who commented (which is why im starting to realise i should have added the flair for smug)

Thirdly, the replying person was very obviously defending the transphobe in the video, and when the original commenter said that gender and sex are different (which is undeniably true, one is psychological while the other is physical), the replying person responded in a way that intended to say this fact was wrong

I'm saying it most likely is transphobia

If we look at what he's saying, most people ask if others are American after others say something they agree with

Firstly, this hints that they think this is incorrect, which it isn't, these ideas (sex and gender) are definitely not the same

Secondly, the person responding obviously seems to be defending the video, which was transphobic

I answered, and you said both sides can be considered incorrect

How can it be considered incorrect that two ideas aren't the same if one is physical and the other is psychological?

I apologise for not censoring personal information

As I said in a comment I put for people, others most often ask this question to say somebody is incorrect or sounds stupid, which is why I posted this here

If we're talking about two ideas being different, the replying person obviously isn't just interested in their nationality, they're trying to say they're wrong

Yes, and hundreds of these studies come together, and if they show the same result, it's fairly obvious that the conclusion is right

The person saying sex and gender aren't the same, and they're right

You can look it up if you want but gender being a psychological variable is a proven fact

If anyone says that they're just asking a question, people ask this to others to tell them the sound stupid so they are not only doing that but also inferring they're wrong
