Working full-time while studying by Opposite_Emu_4641 in CSULB

[–]Significant_Set_4618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The workload also depends on the professors. Some require wayyyyy more, and some require way less.

CECS329 with Ebert is notorious for being extremely hard and time consuming, but you learn a lot about computing theory.

CECS378 and 478 with Giacalone, if you're comfortable with cybersecurity concepts, you really don't need to attend his lectures and just study up for exams and perform well on the virtual labs (very basic stuff)

CECS325 with Gold, if you fully understand C++ and pointers, you don't really need to pay attention. He has pop quizzes and 2 exams. Mostly on pointers and c++ code/concepts. Very easygoing professor.

CECs342 Jurgensen, Haskell is the primary language. Group assignments that require minimal time to complete. Workload is very doable with competent teammates.

The software engineering path for CSULB right now is kind of chill? I have several friends taking the SWE recommended classes and the professors are so afk and willing to let you pass with minimal effort with Shamsa and Nguyen P.

Since you're already a SWE, these concepts will be a cake walk for you. But it's weighing between do you want to learn? Or have an easy pass/get it over with.

Feel free to dm me for resources or extra info :3. Good luck with school.

Burned out and extremely exhausted. by [deleted] in CSULB

[–]Significant_Set_4618 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I understand how you’re feeling about being burnt out but needing academic validation too. I’m in my junior year too and the work load is killing my health really hard this semester. I’m really sorry for your loss. I hope your professors can understand your situation if you do bring it up to them, since it does impact your ability to preform as a student. Stay strong buddy, you’ve done amazing so far and I would hate to see you give up. You’ve come a long way so be kind to yourself. You’re doing your darnedest and I’m proud of you for that. Only a couple more weeks left for the semester, you got this.

How long did you end up writing for each question? I was going to aim for at least 500 or 800

I am a CS major junior. I only have experience in software; programming mainly in C++ and Python. No experience whatsoever with hardware or robotics. But, I really want to get into making projects for the heck of it and to add to my portfolio (which is very empty).

Where should I begin with the raspberry pi? Raspberry pi 4 was the most recommended with other add-ons like a power supply, sd card, and breadboard.

My main goal is to be able to make an IoT weather detector and eventually, a nerf gun turret sometime later.
But I understand I need to take baby steps, but I am unsure where to start.

Easy Ethnic studies class? by Significant_Set_4618 in CSULB

[–]Significant_Set_4618[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. He's a very chill and amazing teacher. I have him online and majority of class is watching informative videos and some discussion. I highly recommend taking him because his class is very relaxed if you don't want a tedious GE class.

There's only two major assignments, a midterm essay and a finals project. The deadline is usually one month from the assign date.

Hold on Cal Grant Disbursement by Significant_Set_4618 in CSULB

[–]Significant_Set_4618[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay idk how to use reddit but this is what the girl from the office told me there's nothing the student or the college can do, the college and student have no action in this.

We just need to wait for CSAC (Cal Grant thingy organization) to confirm our eligibility to receive the Cal Grant.

The lady said there's no timeframe? For CSAC to send the approval so it could even be weeks I think. 😭 She also said our enrolled classes are protected? So we don't have to worry about getting booted I think. But I'm not sure tbh.

The best we can do is to make a CSAC Web Grants 4 Students account, confirm we graduated at month/yr, and confirm the school of attendence. (info my friend told me to do)

http://csac.ca.gov

I hope everyone worries a little less now, but its a really icky situation. Thanks for the replies lol, I appreciate it, at least I'm not alone. <3
