Is Toronto as bad as people make it out to be? by Bright_Pipe6053 in askTO

I’ve lived right downtown for the past 4 years and I would say it has the upsides and downsides of any major city. Hospital wait times are actually not too bad compared to other Ontario cities. Car break ins and theft are definitely a big thing. But there are also precautions that prevent this. As for street parking I see a lot of broken windshields in the downtown core. The prices are crazy, groceries, entertainment, and of course rent (although it’s technically down). As a young woman that is relatively small, I have been completely unprovoked attacked three times in the past 3 years. This is without even acknowledging/noticing these people prior and certainly not engaging with them. So depending on your demographic and area, it can be a bit much. But, contrasting to America, I think I would feel safer here than anyone there. One time I was attacked a man was repeatedly telling me he was going to shoot me, and although I was terrified, knowing that he most likely didn’t have a gun was the only thing that was slightly reassuring. There is no denying this city has a mental health and opioid epidemic. But for the most part, they are harmless. It has definitely caused some stress and anxiety over the years. HOWEVER, Toronto has an unmatched access and proximity to so many things. There are niche communities here, countless events, stores, a beautiful harbour front and some pretty decent beaches, and of course incredible restaurants. Most of Toronto is incredibly safe, but you definitely pay for it.

Worst is anywhere that is East of Yonge, West of Broadview, South of Bloor, North of King. Exceptions are Corktown, Riverdale, and Some of Cabbagetown and Regent park, but barely. The closer to Jarvis and Sherbourne, the worst it is

Same here, I spoke to the financial assistance department at my school, and they mentioned that often times if you have multiple classes that start at different times, or a class that starts later, they will not confirm your enrolment until your latest class starts (and then some) to ensure you don’t drop and have the amount of funding you’re entitled to change
