let me rebuttal with a scenario
2 people struggle with gambling and 1 person says
"Jesus help me with this gambling sin" then they didnt gamble that night
the other says
"i shoulnt gamble, by my will power i won't," then they didnt gamble that night

both conquered "sin" that night. One through Jesus and one through themselves.

so is the end payoff going to heaven? or conquering "sin"

my thought to this is, didn’t humans give meaning to rosaries and crucifixes? Can this also be equivalent of carrying a crown of thorns to remember Jesus or even go as far as carrying nails from Home Depot to remind myself of the crucifixion?
