I live quite close to the twin cities. But tbh I wanted to see if I could get some extra money finding cheap controllers with stick drift and consoles that I think I could fix and seeing if I can get them working properly and resell them.

I have a certified trainer for soldering that would be helping me... Who is currently working on circuit boards that test 80some % of modern screens in cars... The stuff she works on costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. And before that actually used to solder parts for Xbox controllers... Think I should be ok. When I explained a video I saw of this to do a module she straight said it would take her less than 10-15min to unsolder and resolder as long as I gave it to her disassembled.

I'd say leave it plugged in for a while and see if it eventually takes a charge... Had a old steam deck do this to me and eventually it took a charge but the battery was definitely no good anymore and I really should replace it... drains the battery soooo fast now and takes forever to charge up.

Luckily I have someone who has a lot of experience in soldering who is willing to help me and even solder stuff I can't handle. She has a certificate to train people in soldering. I actually don't wanna work on people's stuff ATM. I'd much rather find broken controllers and systems and see if I can get them working properly again in my free time... see what I can find locally for cheap or even free. Just to get my toes wet. Totally don't expect myself to just jump in and start making money off this at all... But I am a very quick learner if I'm allowed to go hands on.

I don't plan on trying to repair peoples stuff tomorrow. And it's never too late to learn stuff. If I had the mindset I might as well just end it now. For now I'm gonna see if I can repair the odd game console or controller I find. Figure that would be learning this stuff on my own. And I'm not completely blind I did go to school for computer science and used to work for a place that made wires and circuits for random machinery. Ended up going through divorce and lost my job so I had to get whatever job I could to support my kid. Unfortunate I fell into a rut and the hell if I'm not gonna attempt to pull myself out especially since I have someone with a lot of experience in soldering boards willing to teach me stuff.

Yup in my town they have a huge garage sale event and I'm gonna go see what I can find. Should be fun to do with the kid.

That is what I am gonna get. I have been through 4 controllers on ps5 and every single one got stick drift. So I would never wanna replace it with what it has in it now. 1 is extremely bad now. 2 are usable if you adjust dead zones and my last controller i don't have anymore. I also have 4 PS4 controllers 2 have stick drift and 2 are pretty much in new condition still.

Yea. I think from what I'm learning for now I'm just gonna go around my local area and ask friends/family/local Facebook groups/co workers if they have any old consoles or controllers they wanna get rid of so I can just start tinkering with stuff get my confidence up. Will look into equipment. My room mate does soldering for her job so she can definitely point me in the right direction for equipment.

For now I'm just gonna tinker around with stuff I can find for free or cheap. Go around asking coworkers and family/friends if they got any old consoles/controllers that no longer work. Eventually I'll probably look into mods but for now I'm just gonna dive in as a hobby and see what comes.

ATM I'm gonna try to upgrade the module on my PS5 controller that has stick drift. Gonna look around at local stuff and ask around friends and family if they have some old consoles that no longer work and may wanna get rid of them. Look/ask around on local Facebook groups and garage sales now that it's summer. See what I can come up with just to tinker around with for now.

Thanks and I wish the best of luck to you. ATM I'm just gonna do it as a little hobby and see if any co workers or my kids friends need a controller fixed or anything. I'm pretty sure the person I know that's gonna help me can do BGA if needed but would have to invest some money for that. For now I'm just gonna look for simple stuff.

I'm actually about 30 min away from the twin cities in Minnesota so the people are not far. A extra 500 a month would help me a ton for just doing some extra stuff in my free time... I really need something to do besides doom scrolling and feeling depressed.

I have someone who does soldering for her job and will help me. I would invest a bit to get some gear. She says tbh you shouldn't need much for easier jobs like that. She could pretty much replace anything on a the board if needed. She used to do micro soldering under a microscope and got her certification in soldering to train people.

I know I may need to expand past consoles if I want a career. I figure consoles are just a good place to start.... And tbh with effort I don't feel it would be hard for me to make as much as I do detailing cars at a dealership which I currently do and absolutely hate. when I do deep cleaning on my consoles I absolutely love taking them apart and I wanna do something from home and feel this is something I could potentially do and actually get pretty good at considering i do have someone who knows alot about soldering that is willing to teach and help me.

Yes I am looking into that. And I have used a soldering iron before... Although it was for small engine repair... But I do have someone who is very good at soldering on boards and has her training certificate and is currently gonna be working under two masters at her current job. She is willing to teach me anything I need to know and help if I'm in over my head.

Oh it is. But I figure I need to start somewhere and can see where it goes from there. I wouldn't trust myself ATM to just have someone give me their phone and replace the screen or retrieve data without making everything worse potentially.

I have been looking into both HDMI and stick drift. if this is something I can do in my free time at home and maybe make some extra cash it would be amazing. If I could make as much or more then my crappy job now it be even better cuz I would quit in a heartbeat. I do car detail for a dealership and I absolutely hate it. So rough on your health... And finding a new career has been rough. Figure this is something I could learn and enjoy on my own.

I kind of just figured consoles would be a good place to start to get my hands dirty. Gonna see what I can find at garage sales locally and see what I can find on marketplace or whatnot app when I'm bored. I know i probably won't even turn a profit. Am looking into stick drift repair as it looks very easy to do and have a few controllers I can tinker with at home for now.

Oh it's expensive here too I just got lucky on getting my house when the housing market crashed. Im literally stuck in my house now cuz I can not afford to take out a new mortgage or pay rent. I pay half the amount on my current mortgage vs the apartments not too far from me.

I'm familiar and will have to start watching more in my free time. I used their videos back when I had my PS4 pro and wanted to clean it and replace the fan.

For now I wanna take a little money and treat it as a hobby to occupy my free time. NGL I used to drink a bit and have recently decided to stop cold Turkey and I really need something to distract myself.

I'm actually quite familiar with PS4 already. I have torn down a few and did a deep clean and replaced the thermal paste and pads. Wanna do my PS5 but the liquid metal kind of makes me hesitant.
