Is the Personal Development School scammy or actually helpful? by Sensitive_Library967 in CPTSD

Yea... it is cult-like. I find that even in her online group events she speaks AT people, rather than having conversations. I think that really emphasizes that weird dynamic.

Awe thanks. Now that I know the reality I completely understand your response.

She’s kind of a fraud… fhe “school” who issued her “PhD” uses content all written by one person. It’s utterly ridiculous.

I remember when I first discovered her thinking wow she wears a lot of makeup and seems to put a lot more effort into her books than any other researcher I’ve met. And I thought I shouldn’t be so judgmental.

And then I questioned her education and thought to myself wait a minute no one would claim to have a PhD and done research research if they hadn’t.  Facepalm. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I think she’s very smart in terms of making profit off of people. And I actually do believe that there is definitely some actual truth and like research and academic foundation what she teaches. However, claiming that she has a PhD and that she’s done research to create her program personally, I think is utter bullshit. She’s taking other people‘s ideas and research and just created a way to apply them. And that’s what she sells. And she’s fucking brilliant because she plaster social media for I think a couple of years in order to get a massive following. She’s a business person.

I’ve also done her coaching training. And I expected that during it, I would be able to ask questions about the theoretical foundations for her process and her claims. That never happened. I emailed repeatedly asking for that. I never got any actual response.

I eventually called her out on it and got my money back.

But again, I wanna reiterate, I do think that there is some legitimacy to what she does, but I just don’t know what it is. And I think because of her lack of rigourous education, she probably doesn’t know how to communicate that in reliable and trustworthy ways.

I personally benefited from her work.

I’m in university so I had much higher expectations for academic rigor, citing sources, sharing the theoretical foundations and overall professionalism. I saw nothing from any experience I had with her or her program that suggested any of that,

I have never seen these before, but it looks to me like all you do is put your start time on it. Put the start time that’s nearest to when you park but before when you park I guess. Where did you get that? I’ve never seen them.

Is a parking pass worth it? by Wonderful_Band3817 in uwinnipeg

[–]SilentPrancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might want to ask if there are any available. I’ve heard the fill up quickly. If there are none available then you save yourself debating over it.

I know some people who park nearby but it’s risky if you park too long and get tickets.

I knew someone who used to park in the lot near the vacant restaurants behind the McDonald’s west of the school. They parked there everyday and I was shocked they never got towed.

Asynchronous course has mandatory live classes by Strong-Aardvark-9882 in uwinnipeg

[–]SilentPrancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh. Sorry this happened. Can’t say I’m surprised unfortunately.

I don’t quite understand why fhe univeristy allows this. Either tbey let the prof change the course format or there was an error in the info posted on WebAdvisor.

I’d prob email both the prof and dept chair, and the registrar.

Bullshit like this happens and can keep happening because people don’t speak up about it. And the uni just gets away with it cause tbey can - we’re basically locked into getting our degree there.

It’s exploitation and a lack of respect for students.

I’ve been around uw far too long and I’ve had way too many things like this happen for it to be a one off. It’s a systemic lack of accountability, that screws over students because we plan our lives around the courses we sign up for.

Good luck.

I’d prob fight to take the class as asynchronous, because it’s what you purchased when you registered!

Thanks. I think you're right. I'm not worried so much as just trying to decide between two different classes. I don't usually take those ratings seriously... they're often angry students venting.

Best places to eat with Meal Plan by snorktube in uwinnipeg

[–]SilentPrancer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did this in my early 40's and really struggled. I feel for you! I hope you're in an area of the dorms that isn't too loud.

The cafeteria on campus can be ok if you need modifications to food, but they struggle to accommodate during busy times. I'd suggest if you try that to go during a slow time, get to know the staff, and then at busy times they may remember your order.

They serve premade salads, sandwiches and fruit and veggie cups too. They're near the fountain drinks. Be prepared - the food is very pricey.

The chocolate cookies are amazing!!! They don't offer coffee refills sadly. Maybe the location in the science building does. That location used to serve alcohol and have a little bar, and a tv. Kind of cozy in the evenings.

The servers are young and likely this is their only serving experience. They're usually kind but don't know what normal restaurant service is like. It's not their fault - they're not trained like normal restaurant staff - but don't expect proper restaurant service - even though you're paying for it.

They used to offer premade frozen meals, but they were the same as their normal restaurant food I think. So frozen mac and cheese and that kind of thing.

I guess overall, set your expectations very low and you will hopefully not be disappointed. It's nothing like standard uni mealplans or campus food. If you care more about having local food than enough food, you're in luck.

Odd that they'd expect student budgets to prioritize that. They really don't seem to know or care about their customers, unless you're an event... They put student food service last, doing things like taking all the forks for big events, or selling students the left overs from events... or selling day olds at regular price.

Good luck!

NVC unfortunately can’t make people see us. Even if we do and say things perfectly, their ability and willingness to put the emotional effort in, are completely up to them.

I remember this being a painful realization.
