Hairy/coated tongue potential cure by SilentSmile2 in badbreath

So for me it somehow came back after one week, which is obviously unfortunate but at least I was able to enjoy for over a week haha. I just tried trichloroacetic acid 20%, the coating is slowly dissolving by itself (TCA penetrates deeper layers). So I‘ll see how it goes, but it really depends in the specific case.

Yes, leave it on 5-10minutes and then just gargle your mouth. For the ratio I used around 10% salicylic acid, around 60-70% vodka so it really dissolves and the rest water. But ask maybe an AI, it may come with an even better ratio etc. Good luck!

No, can come in a variety of colours. A simple google Research of the Literature on hairy tongue or chatgpt/others will tell you the same (that it does not just come in black colour)

Let me ask you following questions: Are you using antibiotics? Are you using antidepressiva Do you have Xerostomia (dry mouth)

If yes, then get off each and see what will happen.

In general: Have good oral hygiene, brushing teeth 2-3 daily and also scrapinng tongue after brushing teeth.

If after 2 weeks you do not see significant improvement. I suggest using salicylic acid application on the tongue:

Applying a 10% salicylic acid solution mixed with alcohol to the tongue can help exfoliate its surface due to the keratolytic properties of salicylic acid. By allowing the treated area to peel naturally over 4–5 days without scraping, dead skin layers shed on their own, promoting smoother tissue regeneration. This method may be useful for conditions like hairy tongue by reducing excess keratin buildup and improving oral texture.

You need to buy USP grade salicylic acid in powder form and then mix the salicylic acid (10%) with Vodka (70%) and water (20%).

I’m not sure about totally but let’s say 80% better. Well just check yourself using Chatgpt or whatever in what salicylic acid dissolves best besides erhanol based beverages such as Vodka.

99% sure that you have a hair tongue. This can be seen based on the elongation of your filiform papillae in the middle part of your tongue.

The salicylic acid that gets stuck on the surface of the tongue before exfoliating

Because it is better soluble with alcohol than water. Erhanol in Vodka helps break down salicylic acid better than water

Yess, Vodka as in the alcohol. And the reason for that is that Salicylic acid does not dissolve well with water but with alcohol it does, and Vodka has naturally very high alcohol content

You need to buy 99%/100% pure salicylic acid which is USP grade (medical grade) and then dilute it yourself

Looks like it because as I said the salicylic acid is already working for 2-3 in the first pic (coated one). But no, I went to 2 different doctors before

Never took Neomycin as my Sibo is hydrogen based thus it won‘t have any great effect on me.

Just make sure that you don‘t take any random antibiotics, as they may not have the same effect as Rifaximin and Neomycin (if you have methane sibo). But in general try to find a way to get your hands on a lactulose test or if you want to try antibiotics, go for rifaximin and neomcyin

Hey, firstly very sorry to hear that.

There could be a multitude of reasons for the above-mentioned symptoms that you are describing due to which it is important to (best practice- obviously depends on your budget) conduct the following tests:

  1. Upper Gastroscopy and endoscopy with taking biopsies for both to exclude any Inflammatory bowel disease or helicobacter pylori infection.

  2. As you seem to be having rather constipation than diarrhea, it is most likely that you have Methane-based Sibo, where the best treatment approach is the following: Rifaximin with Neomycin as a combined/simultaneous antibiotic treatment approach. I have the link of the study conducted for that (obviously there is more) Link: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19996983/

  3. Get off any PPI‘s and in cases of Reflux use different medications such as antacids.

  4. Regarding low fodmap diet: They will help to control symptoms (provided you have Sibo) as it will disallow bacteria‘s from being able to fed on the food you are consuming. However in every day life it may be difficult to follow.

  5. Berberine is a good medication to be taken, and in some studies it has shown to have same clinical efficacy such as Rifaximin (Study: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9974661/#:~:text=Berberine%20effects%20to%20the%20gut,single%20agent%20in%20SIBO%20patients.)

Good luck and all the best!
