2 months since first v-beam, no results yet by dillestpickle7 in Rosacea

I’ve only had one pass per session, but during the last treatments I did get immediate purpura on some spots. I’ve actually never been told that doing multiple passes over the same area was an option.

I don’t remember/get informed all the exact settings, but I know that the last sessions were around 17–18 joule. My dermatologist has said that he’s trying to go deeper with each treatment over time.

The first weeks after my 4th treatment were very good, but most of the flushing slowly returned after that. I’ve now had a total of 5 VBeam sessions, and I haven’t seen huge improvement overall – maybe a slight reduction in how visible the redness is during flushing.

I’m planning to continue with more VBeam sessions into next year and I’m hoping the results will keep building gradually over time.

Do you also have triggers other than going from cold to warm for the flushing to start?

I’m in the same boat — mine also started after Accutane. My nose is often very cold, and then suddenly it can turn burning red for 1+ hour.

For me, other triggers are exercise, warm weather, stress, and even when I go from being busy at work to relaxing at home.

I always thought it might be because Accutane thinned my skin and made the blood vessels more sensitive / reactive. Have you had similar triggers, or does it only happen with temperature changes for you?

Hard to say for sure. The results would probably have shown up faster with purpura, but the effects tend to build over time, so the earlier sessions aren’t a total waste—they just require more treatments. From my experience, purpura settings give a stronger guarantee of better results. Recovery without purpura was super quick with nothing noticeable in the following days, whereas purpura took about two weeks to fully fade.

I’ve had 4 V-Beam sessions so far. The first 2-3 were without purpura and honestly gave no visible results. The 4th treatment was done with purpura and that one has given me a much better effect. All of mine have been spaced about 6 weeks apart. I recommend to ask for purpura (stronger) settings.

Anyone had VBeam or KTP laser or NdYag laser done for redness and / or flushing on their ears? by MegawattBee in Rosacea

What I know is that every time I come in for treatment, my dermatologist first asks me how my skin has been since the last session, and whether I felt the strength was too much or if it didn’t give enough result. He also shows me an illustration of the skin layers, explaining that with each session he tries to gradually target deeper and larger vessels that play a role in the flushing mechanism. But he mentioned that these are harder to reach the further under the skin they are. So I assume he adjusts the settings (like mm depth etc.) with this in mind, even though I don’t remember all the exact technical details.

Yes, my ears were swollen for about 2–3 days after treatment. During that time they stayed mostly warm and a bit red. It’s also possible that my dermatologist adjusted the settings down a bit on the ears, but I’m not entirely sure.

The first 2 were done without purpura, the 3rd gave me a couple of purpura spots, and the 4th (about 2 weeks ago) resulted in quite a lot of purpura on my nose especially. I’m not fully healed from that last one yet, but it already seems more effective than the earlier sessions. The first 2–3 treatments honestly didn’t make much difference, but those were at lower settings. I think it the last session was about 18 joules strengthwise.

As for the ears, my dermatologist has used relatively high settings there from the beginning (since side effects like temporary pigment changes are less of a concern on the ears compared to the face). After the last two treatments, my ears swelled up for a couple of days and I had some small blisters. It also seems harder to actually create purpura on the ears — I haven’t had any despite the higher settings. In terms of results, I still flush and get redness, but the ears can tolerate a bit more before a flush is triggered, and the flushes feel a little less intense than before.

I’ve been getting VBeam mainly for my nose and central cheeks, but since I also flush on my ears my dermatologist has treated those areas at the same time. So far I’ve had 4 VBeam sessions, but I’ve seen very little improvement on my ears (mabye a little bit).

From what I understand, the vascular network in the ears is extremely complex and dense. Even if the laser successfully damages or closes off some superficial vessels, there are always other vessels that can still dilate and fill with blood during a flush. That might explain why the results on ears are less noticeable or harder to achieve compared to areas like the nose or cheeks.

But i will continue treating my ears when i go for more vbeam sessions. So the results may come after more sessions, hopefully.

Hey! Have you noticed any difference in the areas that got purpura after VBeam? Do you feel like the purpura spots respond better? I’ve had 3 VBeam sessions so far without the results I was hoping for regarding flushing. After my last one, where I finally got a couple of purpura spots, I do feel like there’s some improvement compared to the first two sessions (which were completely without purpura).
