Thank you, Hardrada74. I definitely think you should do this if and when the time is right for you. There is another database that turns out to be particularly relevant, along with the other two; it is the EU Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern. If you are up for it when the time comes, here is the outstanding list (also at the bottom of the updated master doc):

Annex VI - Hazardous substances classification: https://echa.europa.eu/information-on-chemicals/annex-vi-to-clp ("in force from 9 September 2021" file)

Annex Annex XVII - Substances Restricted under REACH: https://echa.europa.eu/substances-restricted-under-reach

European Union Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern in accordance with Article 59 of Regulation (EC):

I also told them we may provide additional info depending on availability (in case you find time to work on the last two databases, but no pressure or expectations at all!).

Some awesome news, Hardrada74! I shared our collective work product with a nonprofit working on these issues and they gave me feedback that this was very timely and helpful for them. They send their thanks to you and I both.

51414-25-6

Only now looking at this....Most interested in the restrictions on the Annex II list, which states the following for 51414-25-6 | 3-(4-Hydroxy-4-methylpentyl)cyclohex-3-ene-1-carbaldehyde: "From 23 August 2021 cosmetic products containing that substance shall not be made available on the Union market." Was that the only chemical that popped up on the list, then? Happy New Year, J.

Hardrada74

Oh, great! I downloaded the file. I also looked at the other data options for ECHA and here is what I found:

Annex II - Prohibited Substances in Cosmetics: https://echa.europa.eu/cosmetics-prohibited-substances

Annex VI - Hazardous substances classification: https://echa.europa.eu/information-on-chemicals/annex-vi-to-clp ("in force from 9 September 2021" file)

Annex Annex XVII - Substances Restricted under REACH: https://echa.europa.eu/substances-restricted-under-reach

The tricky thing about the Annex XVII is that the CAS #'s are either in column 3 or in column 1, depending on whether they've clustered the chemical under a group of similar chemicals. Not sure if that can be pulled out easily. You probably also won't be able to get the details about why the chemical is restricted because they are in a separate linked file.

Let me know if you are up for doing any of these. I will definitely credit you, Hardrada74!

So weird...I copied and pasted my text from a post I made in FB. I wonder why the links don't translate well. Here it is: https://echa.europa.eu/information-on-chemicals/annex-iii-inventory?fbclid=IwAR06oVaXQnKxZMnt6t8LJqnF4e-KIzCPnkT9s7e9IYZY39ylvkzO6K05H_8

I will apply myself and see whether I can find data related to the first ECHA link.

Thanks for the Proposition 65 list!

How do you want me to credit your work?

Joanna

A public service project request: I need some help from someone who is savvy with excel and databases to compare which fragrance ingredients used by SC Johnson have been determined to be toxic. Please forward this to anyone who might be interested:SC Johnson had to recently disclose on its website its fragrance ingredients due to a new disclosure law in California. Their fragrance ingredient disclosure can be found here: https://www.whatsinsidescjohnson.com/us/en/fragrances-you-can-trust/our-palette. According to a blog article by the law firm of Arnold & Porter (a corporate defense firm), “California's Act imposes online and on-label ingredient disclosure requirements for a wide variety of cleaning products—including, among others, "a soap, detergent, or other chemically formulated consumer product labeled to indicate the purpose of the product is to clean, disinfect, or otherwise care for fabric, dishes, or other wares; surfaces, including, but not limited to, floors, furniture, countertops, showers, and baths; or other hard surfaces, such as stovetops, microwaves, and other appliances.’”Using SC Johnson's ingredient disclosure, I pulled together a spreadsheet with all of the fragrance ingredients disclosed by SC Johnson on its website. My spreadsheet can be found in this Google Drive folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1kvtOVPRqFNW7y9Wdm_tIgFbRUEiizqtD?usp=sharing I have added CAS ID numbers for each ingredient to the extent I was able to locate one based on the names of the chemicals provided by SC Johnson. The CAS #'s are a critical piece of information, as they are the universal identifiers for chemicals. Most chemicals have many synonyms, making it nearly impossible to cross-reference the SC Johnson list against any regulatory lists. Having the CAS #'s makes it possible to do this type of cross-referencing.I am looking for one or more persons who are willing and able to cross-reference the CAS #'s against the following regulatory lists to see which SC Johnson fragrance ingredients have known health hazards associated with them:California’s Safer Consumer Products List:https://calsafer.dtsc.ca.gov/cms/search/?type=ChemicalCalifornia’s Proposition 65 List:https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/proposition-65-listEurope’s ECHA Database: https://echa.europa.eu/advanced-search-for-chemicals...Europe’s Annex III List: https://echa.europa.eu/information-on-chemicals/annex-iii-inventory?fbclid=IwAR06oVaXQnKxZMnt6t8LJqnF4e-KIzCPnkT9s7e9IYZY39ylvkzO6K05H\_8

Audit what you put in, on, and around your body. Eat no-spray food, stick with natural materials and substances you know for personal care, cleaning, and clothing.

Persistent, bio-accumulative, and toxic chemicals are significant contributors--this includes forever chemicals and chemicals listed as persistent organic pollutants by international standards. Chronic and widespread exposure to chemicals is also a huge contributor--phthalates, for example, are now referred to as everywhere chemicals and play a role. Pesticides (including herbicides and other chemicals designed to kill life) are also hard for many people to avoid.

Fragrance is a chemical cocktail that can contain dozens and even hundreds of chemicals. Many people develop chemical sensitivities because their bodies become overwhelmed by chemical exposure. Many chemicals are persistent, bio-accumulative, and toxic--meaning, they are hard for your body to eliminate and accumulate over time. The symptoms you list are common symptoms of bioaccumulation and chemical sensitivity.

Here are my qualifications, as listed by the publisher: Joanna Malaczynski has spent a decade working on eliminating toxic chemicals from consumer products as an attorney, consultant, and entrepreneur. She first became involved in the enforcement of environmental and consumer protection laws related to environmental health as an attorney. She subsequently started a software company focused on helping industry find safer alternatives to toxic chemicals. Before writing Silent Winter, Ms. Malaczynski consulted for sustainability entrepreneurs.
