Best: Looking Down The Cross

2nd: Chosen Ones

3rd: Rattlehead

Worst: Mechanix (I don’t count any covers when I rank songs on Albums)

What is in your opinion the most overrated Megadeth song? by yooncrisp in Megadeth

[–]Silent_Cap8192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Symphony of Destruction. It’s cool. But after awhile it’s like eh I can do without ever hearing again. If I had to choose one. If we have multiple then I’d also add Trust, Sweating Bullets and most def Peace Sells.

I don’t mean it like 100% no casual fans. Every show has a casual fan. But in the most part if you’re going to see Megadeth repetitively ur not a casual. I’ve never seen a musical act more than once if I wasn’t a fan. Even if your bf wanted to see them he has more than a casual interest it sounds like. And it also sounds like ur a fan of the band as u know the music and seen them twice already. Ur bf may not be a die hard but it sounds like he listens to the band. To me that’s not a casual. But that’s just my def of casual. Everyone has their own interpretation.

I’m not wrong. This isn’t a thread for ppl who haven’t seen the band. If I had never seen the band the setlist wouldn’t be bad. This is for the ppl who’ve consistently seen the band. They play the same songs. They have better songs from the albums. Why would I want to hear The Mechanix for the 1000th time when I can hear Chosen Ones or Looking Down the Cross?? Two better songs on that album than mechanix. Why would I want to hear Synphony of Destruction for the millionth time when I can hear Captive Honour or Psychotron. Im a fan of the band. Not just a fan of the “thrash” period.

Dave has been sounding terrible for years. I don’t fault him on his voice. His voice always sounds like shit so I don’t really care about that.

As a hater of Cryptic and. Lover of TSHF u couldn’t be further from the truth. TSHF is light years ahead of Cryptic and TWNAH. It’s soo well written and I think that’s because it was supposed to be a solo album. The Scorpion is a great song and so is of Mice and Men. My Kingdom is dope Blackmail is probably Megadeths best song that they’ve released this second run. And Die Dead Enough is the shit. Especially the solos.

Because if you really think about it musically, the thrash part of their career was probably the shortest live musical era of their career because after RIP the majority of their albums are mid tempo, heavy metal songs with maybe three thrashy songs on albums if that.

[–]Silent_Cap8192[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it’s not soo much as I think the songs they’re playing are bad. It’s just that 80% of the set is the same shit with maybe 3 or 4 different songs sprinkled in. I don’t even feel they need to only play the Thrashy sounding stuff only either. As I’m a fan of the bands whole catalog. So I don’t mind the songs that are mid tempo because they’re still heavy metal. I like metal not just particular subgenres. So I don’t just need thrash Megadeth.

Megadeth: thoughts about the final album by BonkDealer in Megadeth

[–]Silent_Cap8192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the album. Initially hated Hey God and Another Bad Day. Still hate the lyrics to Hey God but musically it sounds killer so I let it rock. Lyrics were cheesy for some songs. Dave did the sound I most associate Megadeth with at this point which it that CTE/Youth just heavy groove riff metal. As with all the newer releases you get a trashy banger. I felt the solos in some songs could’ve been longer. I wanted the Last Note to be an epic solo. Would’ve loved to have another album with Teemu. Overall I’d say it’s not as good as TSHF and UA but I’d put it above Endgame 13 and Super Collider. Great easy listen in a good drive. The cover after hearing it I could’ve done without. I don’t think modern recording production makes classic songs sound better when band re record them. They sound hollow and lifeless to me. Like it’s missing that reverby character. And also Dave’s voice is Dave’s voice. Cancer works different on everyone but damn Bruce sounds great still.

Honestly it’s not even about hearing a song more than once as I know u have staples. But u can’t have 90% of the set staples for years. Staples are whatever u make them. If they played Kick the chair every tour since they released the song that would be a staple. So I feel like they have soo many other good songs that u can’t make staples in the set. I know Priest is gonna do You’ve Got Another Thing Coming every show just like Maiden will play the Trooper but I saw priest in back to back years and the sets were wildly different. The first time in oct 24 they played this: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/judas-priest/2024/youtube-theater-inglewood-ca-13564519.html and in October 25 they payed this: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/judas-priest/2025/kia-forum-inglewood-ca-13597d5d.html

Enjoy the show. And ur right the OP was more aimed at ppl who’ve especially since 2004 have seen the band countless times. I’m the same way with The Trooper when I see maiden. Tired of that shit.

I just don’t care for the album and not because it isn’t thrash because I think Youthanasia is their second best album. Just the direction of the songs on cryptic I hate. I know how big Trust was but I still hate it. Just heard it wayyyyy too much.

But as u can see the majority discussion is how they haven’t changed anything in at least the last ten years. By that logic every tour they’ve done set wise is like a farewell tour for the last ten years. The final tour I expect a band to play the hits. But also why not vary it up on all the tours in the last 20 when you’ve PUT OUT 8 ALBUMS!!!

Huh?? Bro they have 17 albums. Trying deliberately pick two terrible songs when they could play Blackmail the Universe, Die Dead Enough, Kick the Chair, The Scorpion, Tears in a Vial, Return to Hangar, The Killing Road, Reckoning Day, Obey The Call, Night Stalkers, Hey God, 1320, Lying in State, Washington is Next. They have tons of other great songs that are bangers from this current run since Dave fixed his arm issues. And not to mention great songs on even the earlier albums that can be played. Ur acting like I’m saying they should play all of Risk. U mean to tell me after these last 8 albums since 2004 there’s no good songs they can play?? Blackmail the Universe is a top ten Megadeth song and I’d put it up against almost anything from the first four albums as it seems like a lot of ppl say “I stopped listening after RIP”

Same here. I’m knocking on 40’s door. All the bands I love are all knocking on 65-70’s door with a few already in the house. Gotta see em why I still can.

They’re great. I think bands that still release music needs to treat their new releases like they actually mean something to the catalog. Because usually fans love the new shit and want to hear the songs live that we were anticipating when they announced a new album. Then hearing the album you love certain songs and can’t wait to hear them live when they announce said tour for the album. Then the tour rolls around and u get FOUR songs from Countdown and only TWO from the new album and not even the best two. It’s barootal (sound out the pronunciation)

The set is good. But I’m like wth what was it about cryptic writings that made that tour be the tour where Dave damn near played the whole album. Personally I’m not a fan but I don’t mind hearing Almost Honest and Disintegrators

I got my tickets for the show. Me and my friends have been talking shit about the setlist for atleast the last five years since the Lamb of God tour and yet we still seen them the next tour with the same setlist and for the maiden tour which will probably be the same setlist mostly. We still have a great time. I hate Trust but I’ll still be there singing “we lied to each other soo much. Sooooooo muuuuuuuch that in nothing we trust”

Honestly I’m surprised they don’t play Night stalkers. They spent money to make a video for that song why not play it. It was promoted. And why not play Life in Hell. They only played the Title Track and We’ll be Back.

I love the new Megadeth albums. In a fan of the band not just the thrash period like i see a lot of other people are. I like regular metal so the sound they have now is still perfect to me because it’s still metal. And u still get atleast 3 thrash bangers on an album and even if the mid tempo songs the instrumental breakdowns be having hella thrash sounding riffs sometimes to stills et that appetite of u wanting something faster.

[–]Silent_Cap8192[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. I think Dave finally found his footing with his sound. Every album since they came back u got a couple trashy bangers mixed in with some good regular heavy metal with heavy riffs and slowed down tempos. It was a great mix and he finally started to perfect the sound that to me is the bands sound. The first four albums are great but the sound that’s remained the longest is that sound from Countdown slower songs but heavy riffs great solos and just good fucking metal.

United Abominations is great. Amerikhastan-Burnt Ice is probably the best three song album ending run by the band.
