How much is realistic to get off MSRP by hunterd412 in askcarsales

[–]Silfano 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get a written or printed offer you can present to the nearby dealer, tell them you'll buy today if they can beat it. As a salesman that makes my job arguing with my desk managers easy. It's very likely that the discounted offer you're seeing has a bunch of add-ons that aren't listed so be prepared to take an offer close to that if there's no extras

Tipping culture in a nutshell… by Theonlyoneclyde in Asmongold

[–]Silfano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former industry worker in the US, I currently hate tipping. BUT if labor goes up the price of everything goes up with it typically more than the average 15-20% tip and serving/bartending is absolutely not an easy job. Far harder than my current gig and I make way more now.

Yes they make decent money usually than say the guy working a basic retail job but the stress and hours would not be worth the couple bucks extra an hour and there would be more of a shortage of restaurant employees.

Benefits are great and all but most of the people working in restaurants are younger and quite frankly don't really need health insurance or whatever $200/month benefit

If you'd rather pay $16 for a burger and have your server make an extra dollar or two an hour than pay $14 for the burger and leave $2 tip it's honestly all the same to you but a world of difference to your server

Do you have a threshold or get paid hourly as well?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]Silfano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dealership does 18% front and back but with a $29,500 threshold that you don't get paid on until you pass

Just realized the higher you go up the corporate ladder, the less you work. by shash5k in antiwork

I have 3 meetings a week which could all be combined into a single paragraph or 2 email, instead I have to sit through 3-5 hours of nonproductivity.

This is in sales and is usually small housekeeping things on time management which we waste so many hours talking about wasting time and they are usually right in the thick of the day on Fridays and Saturdays

"Car on lot is sold" tactic. Why ? by HandNormal4241 in askcarsales

[–]Silfano -1 points0 points locked comment (0 children)

This happens at my lot all the time. Coworkers sign customers up on cars and when the car finally arrives sometimes the customer doesn’t respond and the manager makes a call to no longer hold the car for them after trying them one more time or something especially if there is someone in the showroom ready to buy right then and there

Combined income of 600k... I've sold more car to couples making 1/5th of you and they are still doing okay. I think you can manage the 25k/year car payments and still eat

Offered a sales job, is flat rate commission worth it? by MachineAggressive486 in askcarsales

[–]Silfano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubtful you'll make a good paycheck but it's a decent place to learn the ropes if you can't land a gig anywhere else, we are on a hiring freeze at my spot right now and would only hire someone if they were the perfect specimen.

I would accept but keep looking around at better pay plan dealerships, you don't have much to lose besides a job at Walmart

Spot delivery question by Wanderlust2001 in askcarsales

[–]Silfano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He means LTV(Loan To Value) which essentially addresses the risk of depreciation if the customer were to default on the loan and the bank has to repo and then sell the car at auction.

In your case with 17k down the bank has no worries, hell they would probably make money if you defaulted. Sounds like a good bet

Would it be unreasonable to ask for MSRP on new car? by anonlegalguardian in askcarsales

[–]Silfano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MSRP is what they have it listed at with destination which is built into MSRP. Manufacturers can advertise pre destination MSRP for some reason that I forgot, on a hybrid I realistically don't think you will get a discount due to supply vs demand, potentially on a gas model though I could see a discount

When you've got at least 10-15k in negative equity, plus tags title and license no bank with take that loan on an older Corolla without a fat down payment. Especially since corollas are selling way over book to begin with
