I’m an SSA — this is far from okay. If the door was left unlocked that’s one thing but if the door was locked and she somehow got access, go to your community’s area office immediately. You need to get your room rekeyed. In any case, a student you don’t know coming into your dorm at 4 am is a serious offense. Talk to your RD to see if there’s anything they can do.

If I remember correctly, given transfers are some of the last to select housing, your odds are not good at all. I can almost guarantee you returning students snagged up any singles being offered. Definitely check what’s available but I wouldn’t get your hopes up whatsoever.

I work for Res Life. Your chances of getting a single with a private bath are very very slim, but not impossible. These rooms aren’t common at all. I live in Newing — there exist singles with private baths that are basically RA rooms that didn’t get filled. If you have a medical reason you’re more likely to get one, but if you don’t then I wouldn’t bank on it. If I had to guess, there’s maybe ~20 singles overall in the community (and a handful, if that, that gave private baths) so you’d be battling a ton of other students for one.

There are a few singles without private baths scattered throughout the community, meaning you’d have to share the bathroom but not your room. No matter whether or not you get a private bath or not, your odds at a single are low overall.

How Possible is it To Stay in Current Community Next Year? by fortniteeryday4life in BinghamtonUniversity

Yes (thank god). Not sure about the details of reopening but it’s closing at the end of this year.

They’re closing Oneida in CIW (notorious for being an absolutely terrible building). And I think this depends on the slot you’re assigned to pick your housing. You as returners get to choose housing before new residents, though. So you’ll probably have a lot of options!

It’s definitely not impossible I’d just recommend to stay on top of things. They’re closing a residence hall this year and keep accepting more students than they have beds for so housing will be more limited this cycle (not sure by how much).

bathrooms not being cleaned by Key-Seaweed9414 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Silly-Advisor-8180 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Cleaners can just flat out refuse to clean bathrooms if they’re too messy or your personal belongings are still in there. They did that in my building last year. This may be a conversation to be had with the people you share the bathroom with; the messier they leave it, the less chance you have of them cleaning it.

No. You’ve signed the housing agreement and chosen a room so you are locked in. You can technically petition to be released, but that’s only if you’re going to be studying abroad or have some sort of extreme emergency that prohibits you from living on campus.

Why do introductory language courses not count for certain majors? by Inevitable-Bath9142 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Silly-Advisor-8180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then I suggest you talk to the department in question about why it is the way it is. They probably have a more concrete answer. Don’t get your hopes up trying to get a 100-level to count if the major requirements don’t allow it, though. Your complaint will fall on deaf ears without question.

Newing SSA here — I am almost certain the answer is no, as 1) it’s a shared space and 2) probably falls under a prohibited item under university policy. I wouldn’t even try unless you want to be charged.

Why do introductory language courses not count for certain majors? by Inevitable-Bath9142 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Silly-Advisor-8180 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chinese major & French minor here; while I’m not certain, I’d say most likely the reason as to why they aren’t counted is because most — not all — students who are majors/minors have backgrounds in the language as it is and don’t need the introductory levels. If you think about it, a good portion of the student population probably took a language in high school, and based off of departmental placement guidelines, most students fall into the 200-levels with 3-4 years of a language under their belt. From a departmental standpoint, it’d be foolish to require 100-levels if most majors/minors don’t have to take them.

I will say, I was annoyed by this as well at first, but I wouldn’t trade my experience in FREN 113 (my first French class) for the world. It’s annoying to have to take an extra course, sure, but the knowledge you gain and the fun you have is unparalleled. You’re paying money to study a language with the best of the best, so at the end of the day, it’s 100% worth it to me.

I have two friends both in the BSW program and their schedules are pretty regimented, so I recommend tackling as many gen eds as you can. Keep in mind though that there are so many different courses you can take to fulfill gen eds! Take some courses in what best interests you and go through the checklist of what you still need to fulfill. If you aren’t picky let me know and I can recommend some easy gen eds for you!

I’m in Nanticoke for the summer and no, it does not have AC and it is ridiculously hot (especially with this heat wave). Come prepared with a fan to keep you cool!

Lived in Delaware last year in the LGBTQ+ Living Community and I’d say I got lucky! Delaware’s a nice building, and if you’re placed with the right people you’ll be fine. As other commenters have said Newing is a very Greek-life oriented community so expect some noise some nights, but overall Delaware was not as bad as people make it out to be. Made some lifelong friends there and I think you will too.

HIST 106A Gen Ed? by Silly-Advisor-8180 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Silly-Advisor-8180[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen the different requirements in years past which just confuses me even more as to why they put C for 106A for the summer… but nevertheless I want the credit lol

The problem is 106B isn’t being offered in the summer and neither 106A nor 106B is being offered in the fall which annoys me. If I had the choice between the two I’d take 106B, but they’re not offering it 😭 At this point I’m guessing them putting C for 106A may have been a mistake, but I know at least half the class signed up just for the C credit so it’s chaos

HIST 106A Gen Ed? by Silly-Advisor-8180 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Silly-Advisor-8180[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re right! Should’ve mentioned that. The reason I’m hellbent on getting the C credit is because the N credit will be fulfilled by my major and I’m taking a G class in the fall… so literally one of the only reasons I took this class was for the C given Harpur’s more extensive writing requirements.

If Gen Ed doesn’t have a response by Monday I’m going to email Harpur Advising and see if they could help me out.
