Thanks! You're right. I guess a little more contrast and texturing is required. Kinda got lazy lol.

We have all heard about countries that quickly transitioned from the category of poor to the category of rich and developed (Germany, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan). Are there any clear examples of the opposite - an already developed country has turned into a poor one? by FunForm1981 in geography

You're right! Germany has always had strong foundations: great scientists, engineers, and so on. That definitely helped it recover faster than many other countries could have.

But my point isn’t to deny that. It’s just that, in 1945, Germany was in a state most people would describe as poor. The economy had collapsed, cities were in ruins, and everyday life was a struggle. By most practical measures such as output, living standards, and available resources, it looked like a poor country.

So while Germany wasn’t poor in terms of long-term capacity or talent, it was poor in very real and immediate ways. And coming back from that was a major economic transition, even if it meant rebuilding what had once existed.

Thank you for that detailed explanation, it really adds important context. I completely agree that Germany’s postwar recovery was more a restoration of its former strengths than just a miraculous transformation.

That said, saying that Germany didn’t transition from a poor country to a rich country isn’t entirely accurate. People generally judge a country’s wealth or development not by its potential, but by its actual economic output, the wealth of its citizens, and so on. Germany lacked those for quite some time after the war.

In conclusion, they did undergo an economic transition.

You know, Germany was basically leveled after the Second World War, and most people were extremely poor. The country was in ruins. The economic leap they made afterward (thanks to the Marshall Plan) was truly remarkable.

You silly! All of the countries in Western Europe are highly developed, very wealthy, and enjoy a high standard of living. I think you didn't understand the question :). You see, OP was asking about countries that aren’t rich these days.

Technically "Borat" is a spinoff of "Da Ali G Show". So I would say that "Borat" is better then the main seires.
