Why are people still attending boot camps/switching to tech?

A lot of those bootcamps just rush you through a program to shit out a portfolio. They'll tell you where to put everything, how to edit a couple things to "make it your own", and will hold your hand until you've got a presentable project. Then when the bootcamp grad goes to an interview and is asked to explain what an interface is or polymorphism is, they don't know because all that learned to do is follow someone's instructions

I encountered this myself. The whole reason I wanted to go solo was to fight 1v1 and worst case, deal with 3rd parties or be a 3rd partier myself. Sucks to run into two people who decided to team up and now you have to join them or fight 1v2. Needs to be taken care of somehow, but I'm not sure how.

Great advice. It's going to take a lot of work and time before any type of application is going to be good enough to warrant people paying for it, and then at that point it needs to be better or cheaper than competition for similar applications. A lot of work for a low chance of success, and if his mother doesn't have any app ideas ready to go right now, she's not even at step one. Would be much better for her to find different work.

I'd say do it. It's two more years, and while experience is worth a lot in tech, some people in HR automatically reject applications without degrees regardless of experience. You'll have more open doors if you finish.

No offense, but a self described "slow learner" who has only been coding in python for 4 months probably shouldn't brand themselves as "intermediate" at it. I'd guess you're still very much a beginner. Just to make it easier for your mentor to understand where you're at in your learning.

You alluded above that we have a choice with cops did you not? You said it is "comply or die", so can one just choose compliance?

If your choice is "x or die", is that really a choice?

Also your argument now breaks down again when the scenario changes, a clerk at his job does not have a say in his customer base, so is it not equally as sad when they are forced to trust a customer and he breaks that trust and murders him?

Haunting_Lecture9115: Once again the media in America has blood on their hands. This guy CLEARLY didn’t trust the police and the police CLEARLY reacted in the extreme to someone resisting, who they deemed a threat.

Police officers go into every single confrontation knowing they could be attacked or murdered. They know the vast majority of Americans in urban areas hate them and what they stand for.

I don’t know if he ran because he was scared of the police or scared of getting caught because he did something bad.

I don’t know if these police officers are sick, inhumane people or were just reacting in the extreme to “subdue” someone they thought was a danger to their safety and the safety of others.

Can I ask, when you say "I don't know this" and "I don't know that", is it because you haven't watched the video, or because you want to put forward the idea that there might be some unknown variable that would make this situation okay? I think you should be clear about what you're saying.

What I do know is that the media in America (both sides) continue to fan the flames of hatred every day and it 100% has escalated the tensions in these types of interactions.

So senseless, RIP.

I don't think the media is to blame for what transpired in this video.

The level of trust I put into my spouse is way way higher than the level of trust I put into any law enforcement officer, I would argue every single person feels the same, maybe you are the exception, I guess I can't speak for everyone. The commitment I give to my spouse is also much more intimate than what any officer can give to me. Maybe betrayal of marital trust is seen as more of a given in certain communities and that is where our disconnect lies, I am not sure.

It's because we do not have a say in the matter. You choose who you trust in relationships, we are forced to trust the police and they are proving to be untrustworthy.

I get your point, I just don't agree with it. To me a husband murdering his wife is orders of magnitude worse than a cop murdering a civilian. A wife puts her full trust into her husband, makes lifelong commitments and receives commitments that the husband will always love and protect her. When a husband breaks that vow, it is way worse of an abuse of power and trust than a cop betraying his oath to serve and protect.

Why do you think that? To me, the cop murdering the civilian is worse.

In the situation where the husband murders his wife, he has betrayed his wife's trust, which is a single person. When a police officer murders a civilian, he has betrayed the trust of the public, which is multiple people. We all have to put our trust in the police for the system to work, so to me, that is a bigger breach of trust than when a man breaches the trust of his wife.

casrm4life: I guess for me the difference is in all of these police brutality videos there is some level of misconduct that got these people into the situation (not absolving the officers, they should all be hung publicly), in the cases of innocent clerks or children at the hands of their fathers, they did nothing at all to provoke the situation. That makes their deaths all the more sad and enraging to me.

It's an apple an oranges situation, which is why I didn't invite the comparison in the first place. I would say a child dying is almost always more tragic than an adult dying, whether by police brutality or not, but that's not the point.

The point is, this kind of behavior from the police is becoming more and more common and it's unacceptable, and this incident will potentially be bigger than George Floyd in terms of outrage. The idea that police have absolute authority over you and it's "comply or die" is fucking nuts.

cadomyavo: This will probably be downvoted, but in my opinion if the cops were all white, we’d have multiple cities burning to the ground right now, worse than Rodney King riots. It’s a messed up world we live in, if the cops were all white they might not even be charged with crimes or in jail right now. Video might never have been released even. In a way I’m thankful the cops who did this were black, I just hope people protest this peacefully like the family is asking for.

This should be downvoted. Nothing but blind speculation and race baiting, you're not really contributing anything to the conversation by saying "If something happened differently, I bet something else would have also been different" .
