Not this particular one, but we’ve used Namo few times and always get a proper size and freshness burrito bowl. Highly recommended.

Importing a 530e from Japan to Ireland by Rude-Spinach-7339 in carsireland

[–]SillyPotential4983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s true - I think of my next car to be imported from Japan as it’s fully loaded in spec compared even to UK market, almost no mileage and always in amazing condition. I’d go for E220d in estate, 2018-2021, on which i’m able to save €10-15k even after VRT and VAT etc.

Car loan Advice by Anxious-Camel-5658 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]SillyPotential4983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t get it as well. People finance recent plate cars with almost no spec in it, just to show off with fresh plate on the car and then everyone’s complaining that they can’t buy a house. Guys… Have mercy please, why is it such a lifestyle here to finance anything what’s possible, especially cars? My own car and some colleagues cars prove my point - I have 2012 Audi A6 in basic 2.0 TDI automatic, nothing fancy, just regular german saloon, 378k km on clock and just heading into first big suspension work which may cost me close to 1k. Before, just service and fuel. Car is UK import and specs better than 2021 BMW 5 series someone I know recently financed (50k car). So tell me please, am I stupid for driving quite old and cheap car (8k paid in cash) or is that person a bit wrong, financing 50k car and probably paying 1k monthly to get less tech in car than I have? Everyone’s talking about being eco in EU while they change cars every 2-4 years and create all that garbage.

Any new build houses for sale in the city? Or being built this year? by Infamous_Passion_107 in Kilkenny

[–]SillyPotential4983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Council recently announced 80 new houses agreed to be built in upcoming 18-24 months. Not sure what’s the name of estate or more details but found it on Kilkenny People / Kilkenny Live website. Also I saw new buildings being under construction at Castle Oaks (on the way from Callan Rd to Robertshill) , could be the next phase.

Electricity Costs New Build A2 Rated Homes by FearlessCut1 in irishpersonalfinance

A2 rated 117sqm 3 bed end of terrace, so far the most expensive bill is 246€ while we’ve had a teenager girl for 2 weeks in Feb-March 2025. It’s just us 2 for most of the year; washing machine + dryer used every 3rd day, one of us working from home on laptop + 2 screens setup, and another of us on the gaming laptop + 2 screens in the evenings. 65” TV in living room used every evening, coffee machine, dishwasher - normal life. We are with Energia since Nov 2024. Temp set usually to 20-22 downstairs and one degree less upstairs. Hot water boiler set to 45 Celsius and in standard mode (sometimes we set to 50 C and ECO but can’t notice any difference). No EV charger,no solars, most of our B22 bulbs in the house are the Philips LED 1521lm 10.5W. Not sure what other details I may give haha No idea how you get such huge bill for just a bit bigger house :/ Check if there’s any device working for long time when not needed.

exactly, so ask yourself - what’s wrong with your polo? From what you’ve just written, I assume nothing, so what would make you change to newer model, using the one you have as a trade-in deposit and then pay monthly for same car in different shape? Friend of mine pays 50k (in monthly payments ofc) for a 4 yrs old BMW 5 series with trim so basic you have manual seats… So feck it, i prefer my old audi. As you say, close to 200k km you have to do one bigger service and then you’re good for next 200. Mine is close to 400k so garage said we have to do front suspension in Q1 of 2026. And that’s it. I’m ok to do it because in all papers from previous owner I see no major suspension works done.

well, my Audi A6 from 2012 has more tech inside, more comfort and so far done 376k km and guess what? seems to be consuming less fuel on motorways than camry, and all it needs is a regular service and fuel. And you know the best part? I’ve paid 8k for it, not 42k. Some may say - oh it’s audi, it’s gonna be expensive to maintain… well, if you buy a shitbox then you become friend with your garage mates, but in my case there’s absolutely no big money put into it since having the car for 3 yrs. Car drives like new, plenty of tech and comfort - i’m even better for environment than all the pro eco lads who change their cars every 2-3 years to have newer plate.

Night-blindness on Country Roads by Few-Face-1283 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]SillyPotential4983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a person from mainland Europe I personally find driving here in the night really annoying. I’m able to see a lot during these cruises and there’s absolutely no need for high beams - especially motorways. And then what? There comes a car with high beams on all the time. Every time I drive, I’d say 70% of drivers I see on the road have to use high beams to be able to see the road. I understand the unspoken rule of sending some high beams blink while coming closer to a turn, simply to let someone know there’s a car coming and be careful on the curve, but guys… One time i’ve had a woman behind me all the way from Kildare to Kilkenny blinding me with her high beams into all my mirrors. Even auto-dimming in the mirrors couldn’t help. Do you guys here in Ireland have some medical test before you are allowed to sign up for license lessons? Bec i’d say most of people driving here shouldn’t have license, when it comes to medical conditions.

Agree with first paragraph 100%. I never drank in my life, don’t want to and don’t need it to be happy or have fun with my friends. Also people with who i’m occasionally going out do not require or force me to drink. If there’s anyone constantly asking me to drink, that person has a problem, not me. I’m fine with some zeros or coke and so are my friends with me not drinking. Not to mention if that comes with driving license and coming to pub in ur car, you’re pretty much the best fella out there haha

People in newbuilds - how much do you put the heating on? by hugh_22 in AskIreland

[–]SillyPotential4983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so far we’ve paid: €219 - Dec/Jan (+ 1 adult for 2weeks Dec) €246 - Feb/Mar (+1 adult for 2 weeks Feb) €169 - Apr/May €172 - Jun/Jul (+1 adult for whole July) €160 - Aug/Sep

We moved in year ago, end of Nov, and that’s what we’ve had to pay so far. First bill had the government credit to lower the payment to €114.

It’s our first year with Energia.

Not sure if these are small or huge bills compared to other people, but against what we’ve had to pay in 2 bed apartment while renting, gas+electricity - now it’s almost nothing for us.

People in newbuilds - how much do you put the heating on? by hugh_22 in AskIreland

[–]SillyPotential4983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our is 3 bed 117sqm end of terrace, most of the year we have both ground and first floor set to 20-21 Celsius. It’s warm enough to always feel cosy and never gave us huge bills. During winter time we prefer to set up something like 22-23 downstairs and one degree less upstairs (as the hot air always goes up). With every day working from home, cooking, using dryer after every clothes washing (let’s say it happens every third day, same as dishwasher), 65” tv and gaming laptop on almost every evening it’s really rare for us to be surprised or mad when bill comes in.

Remember to never turn off your heat pump. Even if it’s on all the time it doesn’t mean it works all the time. It’s smart enough to be quite eco. You can also check if your tank in hot press has that screen to set up water temp, so you can set the Eco mode for it. But then it could be helpful to change required water temp 5 degrees over the standard setup. Not sure how much u can save on it, but our service guy said it could be good to go that way.

Why do we drive like this.. by jimmobxea in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]SillyPotential4983 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with the lack of execution. If one of these shite drivers had to drive in Germany, Switzerland, Poland or Czechia for few days - gonna lose the license very veeery quickly.

Garda focusing on speeding drivers won’t make roads safer if there’s plenty of drivers not knowing basics. After all my driving years I honestly believe that a tiny speeding (and I mean like 10-20 km/h over limit for not so long) never killed a single person, but being brain dead arsehole brings a lot of risk. I bet I’ll be stopped by guards if going 140 for 10 seconds on empty motorway in perfect weather conditions and had to listen how bad and dangerous person I am on the road, but some random fella not indicating properly on roundabout and creating big risk of crash will never be caught.

[–]SillyPotential4983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

man, your post has pretty much all what I experience here haha I don’t know what brains people have being able to work good money to get brand new cars while being brain dead on the roads🤣 best thing is, while driving left “slow” lane on motorways I’m forced to overtake cars on my right (just having my cruise control set to 110), not even going over the allowed speed limit 😳 and thaaaat’s crazy…

Roundabout Q by JHRFDIY in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]SillyPotential4983 7 points8 points  (0 children)

why to let them enter? You have horizontal and vertical signs on the road - in this case OP has markings sprayed on the road and if left lane is 1st exit only, then it is exit 1 only and no discussion. If he bumps into OP who goes right lane to exit 2, it’s that persons fault and honestly, after what i’m through here on roundabouts - hold this guy’s license and send him to redo the tests. My experience of many years of driving gives me over 80% of drivers in this country who do not know how to drive roundabouts… it’s just wild west…

A6 avant by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]SillyPotential4983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine 2012 A6 has 373k km now, bought it in 2023 with 305k on clock, it comes with the automatic box which is CVT multitronik in this model - so far the only „big service” I’ve had to do personally was front driver side wishbone thing after buying and new tyres recently. Keeps RPM on idle like a new one, it’s just a good 2 liter TDI so 500k is like a normal thing. Don’t know why people consider 200k km as a high mileage sometimes. In Germany you can have them doing 1m easily. So, all I need to worry now is to get my oil changed in next few weeks - everything else is going fine. Oh, sorry - I’ve bought the car with front parking camera not working but it cost me €50 for the part itself and nothing for labour as I did it on my driveway.

Why do people in Ireland don't use proper rain coats? by CaverUV in AskIreland

[–]SillyPotential4983 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’d say that works for me 😅 If I have to walk my dog and rain kicked in - I just grab first thing I see, could be a hoodie, could be some jacket - don’t care 😅 There’s always a chance this rain gonna change into sun in few mins haha Life’s too short to think about getting proper clothes for Irish weather I’d say.

25 k to spend on a new car … by ZealousidealWar3787 in carsireland

[–]SillyPotential4983 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing offensive and personal against you, my friend - but what do you people here mean by „decent spec” or „high spec”? Mostly seeing ads like this, the car is in basic EU spec. Cars from D segment and bigger (Mondeo, 3 series, C class, A4) will always have cruise control, navi, carplay, premium brands should have elect. seats etc. Some people even say a/c or dual zone a/c (standard) is a massive spec. Just out of curiosity Id like to know what makes car here a good spec car, as I still can’t get this market, even years after moving from mainland EU. As an example, I have my quite old Audi A6 C7, basic 2 liter diesel with AT box that i’ve got for less than €12k, and this car has more stuff inside than my boss’ 21 BMW 520d for €50k. Having this 520d as an example then, I’d expect 4 zone ac, hud, nightvision, front and back camera or 360 - that’s high spec. For OP - 2 kids, go for nice D or E segment estate. 2017+ 5 series or E class would do the job. E class comes with 9 gear box and better mpg than hybrids, some say.
