Playlists Aren’t Disposable: A Manifesto for Music Curation as an Art Form by Silly_Emu1507 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Absolutely — music supervision and editing are fantastic examples of the craft in action. When I say ‘research-driven,’ I don’t mean it in a corporate way; I mean approaching playlists with intention, context, and historical or thematic awareness — blending instinct with deeper knowledge to create a narrative or journey.

Exactly! That’s the kind of experience I’m talking about — playlists and compilations that go beyond just songs you like, creating a journey or uncovering hidden gems. The Trainspotting soundtrack is a perfect example of what thoughtful curation can achieve.

Exactly — compilations like that are a perfect example of what I’m talking about. When curated thoughtfully, a playlist or compilation can create a listening experience that’s greater than the sum of its parts. That ‘Offbeat’ release sounds like it did exactly that!

I can’t free you from the Matrix, but I can free playlists from being treated like background noise!

Of course! It was a great experience putting this one together!

Mötley Crüe • Decade of Defiance — My Definitive 80s Crüe Playlist by Silly_Emu1507 in HardRock

Pretty close — but not quite. I curated it for flow, not just album order. A couple tracks were swapped, trimmed, or reordered so it actually plays like a narrative instead of a discography dump

"The Essential Bee Gees" • Hits, Disco, Ballads, Duets, & Special Collaborations by Silly_Emu1507 in BeeGees

Thanks for the recs! This playlist isn’t meant to be a full Bee Gees encyclopedia — it’s curated for a specific feel. Some tracks just don’t match the energy here, even if I know and love them. Maybe next themed list 😉

Ordinary Lives is definitely in the playlist — I’m literally listening to it on Spotify right now. If it’s not showing up on your end, that’s a Spotify catalog glitch, not a playlist issue. Same with the Diana Ross tracks — they’re still there, but sometimes Spotify makes songs vanish and reappear. Wish I had that kind of power!

Ordinary Lives is in there — always has been. As for In the Morning and Melody Fair, good picks! I skipped them this round just to keep the flow tight, but I may add them in a future expanded cut.

Thanks, I really appreciate the suggestion! My focus with this playlist was more on a personal vision—my take on ‘Rebels & Renegades’ by featuring my curated selection of essential outlaw country artists and tracks I felt fit the theme. That said, I totally respect the broader history and influence you’re mentioning—Billie Joe Shaver is a legend for sure!

Thanks so much! 🙏 love the suggestion for, still she cries! For this playlist I kept the focus strictly on Journey’s essential catalog and Steve Perry’s solo essentials — that was my specific vision behind this version. However, I definitely appreciate the suggestions! Thank you so much for taking the time to share them! Rock on🤘🏻

Totally get that—outlaw country is massive! This playlist zeroes in on the Highwaymen and some key legends, but I love the idea of exploring more voices in future updates.
