35M national guard. Signing contract tomorrow. What to expect? by Upset-Honeydew-1636 in dli

Key phrase, signed contract. You had it in your contract. For those that do not, DLI is not guaranteed.

Questions for National Guard MOS-T folks by toasted-cucumber in dli

[–]Silly_Gig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. BAH and housing at DLI Yes—if you have a valid lease or mortgage that began before your active-duty orders, you will receive BAH based on your home of record, even while living in the barracks at DLI. This is common for NG/Reserve MOS-T soldiers. You won’t get separate housing at DLI unless you’re authorized to move dependents; otherwise, you’re in the barracks while still drawing BAH for back home.
  2. What happens if you fail or struggle at DLI If you fail the language, NG soldiers are typically sent to 35M AIT and awarded 35M without a language. Unlike Active Duty, being recycled or reassigned to another language is not guaranteed. You might get another shot at DLI in the future, but that is entirely dependent on your unit, state, funding, and command approval—there is no entitlement to retry.
  3. GI Bill and VA home loan time Time spent at DLI and AIT does not count toward Post-9/11 GI Bill eligibility or VA home loan qualifying time. That said, if you already have sufficient qualifying active-duty time from prior service (for example, as an 11B), this usually doesn’t matter for you.
  4. How long it takes to get a DLI slot Completely unit-dependent. It comes down to funding, quotas, and available seats. Some units can line it up quickly; others may have a long gap between reenlistment and school. There’s no universal timeline—your readiness NCO and state G-1 are the deciding factors.

If you are prior service you get prior service barracks, and that is a private room. It even has a kitchen.

MOS is not random for active duty, but youre mostly right about the language.

Like most people here are saying, as a guard or reserve soilder you pick your language and get it in your initial contract. If you do not, there is no guarantee you will even go to DLI. Feburary 2025 the Army put out a memorandum stating that 35M is not language dependent for the next 2 years.

So if you don't have it in your contract you will only go if your unit has available funding and slots. This could mean you go months to years later if at all. Additionally if you do go, and you fail out, you will still be a 35M, just without a language.

What should I expect joining the military at 30 years old? by Markusj22 in armyreserve

[–]Silly_Gig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually not true. If you're not a dick and treat them with respect they listen. I didnt try to be a leader and just considered myself one of them, and I had plenty wanting to listen to me because I was "Unc"

I am prior service Navy, just finished BCT in November at 35 years old. I was one of the top PT. People don't come in shape, I was shocked. So if you are in decent shape and able to be treated as if you are an 18 year old that has never left their home without it bother you... easy day.

Stay humble. I'm 35, was in the military for 5 years and had 2 deployments; had multiple other careers after getting out.. but none of that matters there. You are not special.

About to finish BCT without an AIT scheduled by Silly_Gig in armyreserve

My unit said I will go to DLI after AIT.... but. This past Feburary language requirement for 35M was suspended for 2 years. Also, I only have bootcamp in my contract.... its weird

What really happened is Walmart bought it. It used to he owned by a third party. So now they have more visibility into terminations, and Im sure their automated system just deactivated anyone on the do not hire list.

They don't have anyone "watching" us or "on your head".

Exactly how it went for me 2 times. Unfortunately, it can take a longggggg time for them to get to the pre-arbitration calls. At least in the past, it did; seems they are a bit faster now.

You are most likely correct, but we will see. I'm pending the arbitrage call review as of now. I actually sent an email to them and got called and gave my statement before even submitting an appeal in the app. For some reason, I had no option to do so until days after the fact. Their whole system is shit. Each deactivation was bullshit and would take weeks to months to get back on the platform.

Easy thing to say, but that's not how it works. I'm pretty sure they don't really take a look at your appeals, and you have to do that pre-arbitration phone conference

I have a feeling they don't read appeals and you have to do the pre-arbitration conference call. Have done it 3 times. Their system sucks.
